View Full Version : Burke Vs Williams

Going head-to-head for this weeks number one, and DS say:

Well, Burkey's in the lead and currently outselling Robbie by more than two-to-one. Robbie, in turn, is selling more than double his nearest rival, 'Oopsy Daisy' by Chipmunk.

Can Robbie pull it back to get his 7th number 1? Or will Alexandra score her 2nd consecutive number 1 (3rd inlcu. 'Hero') with 'Bad Boys'?

Alex will win the singles battle since 'Bad boys' is very easy to listen to and such while 'Bodies' is a slow grower. The album battle will be interesting though if they release on the same week.

To be fair though they're prepping for her to break America. I think Robbie will probably win the album battle though.

YAY for Alex!!!! :D

I say Rob will get a number one album though over Alex

Scarlett.

I dont mind if Burke does end up beating Rob to #1 (the singles) as she needs a #1 to get further in her career, whereas for Rob it would just be a new #1 to add to his list

Justice has nothing to do with this chart battle.
Popstars get all the credit for the songs they sing,so if there was any justice Robbie would be at #1 because he wrote his single.Alexandra had no input into her single,it was just given to her.Infact she didn't even want to release it as a single.

Anyway...I love both songs equally so it doesn't bother me which single gets to #1.

I don't imagine Alex to be number one in Europe seeing as she just won a British show....Robbie's been around for over 10 years. In time the single will be released to further countries and then we'll see where Bad Boys charts.

Plus, this is Alexandra's 3rd consecutive number one. That's pretty impressive for a new artist.

actually, forget my old comment, what are these three number ones? Her Wikipedia page says that her only number ones were Hallelujah and Hero, and only one of them was a solo song

I'm happy for either to be Number #1, they're two of my favourite songs this year. I'd have rather Robbie got the perfect comeback but ah well, #2 and a brilliant song is good enough for me.

Hero, Hallelujah and now Bad Boys.

Whether or not other people were in it, it's still involved her. So technically she's been involved with 2 and most likely 3 come Sunday.

But we all know that her 3 #1's are down to X-Fcator so its not much of an achievement for her,but for the show.Comapred to Pixie Lott or Lady GaGa, its nothing because they have both had their first '1's go to #1 all down to them.

It doesnt matter if you write it or not, its about how its sang and IMO Alex is a better singer and her song is miles better for me

I agree, its how it sang, remind me again who sung without any sort of miming or a backing track?

LOok, you cant really compare the 2 of them to be honest. The only reason Alex single will do better in the first week, is because she is the Xfactor product, and it is always that way. But she has a long way to go before she an compare herself to Robbie, a woldwide veteran.

but you brought justice into it,so of course it matters.Alexandra went into a studio one day and was told to sing this song and thats it.Robbie actually worked hard to write and produce a great song and the rest came after that.
Surely you can see that if there was justice(like you said)the person who actually worked hard would get to #1.

Well if people would rather download/buy Alex's song (which the sheer majority do) then they can buy what ever they want. Most music listeners don't stop and make a note of who wrote the melody, the lyrics of the second verse or who the produced the middle eight. If a song is good people will buy it. That's the way it's worked and always will work.

At the end of the day both the people who write songs for artists and Robbie are paid, so it isn't such a crime.

No, I meant that it would be justice if Alexandra got number 1 because her song is actually good regardless of whether she wrote it or not, Robbie's is plain awful and a complete joke, if that got #1 over Alexandra it would be a travesty

I know that and I agree with you,all I was saying is that if there was justice the person who worked the hardest and had the most talent would be rewarded for their work with the #1 position because the singer will get all the credit for the song regardless of whether they wrote it or not,and in this
case Robbie is clearly the one who deserves more credit.

But this chart battle is not about justice, its about which song is better and if the public think "Bad Boys" is better than obviously it deserves the #1 position.

Robbie is only really popular in the UK. He's had his fair share of hits in Europe but seems quite hit and miss (strong album sales though). Same in Australia. He flopped in America. Calling him a worldwide veteran is a bit of an overstatement.

I know that. Ive lived in the US until 2007, and I had never heard of Robbie Williams. But I am just comparing him to a beginner like Alexandra. I like her, but it remains to be seen if she is gonna be a success or a flop. GIven her predecessors, the chances are stronger towards flop!

Her sales suggest otherwise, She'll get a number 1 and a leggy album just like Leona at least. The only reason why others were flops was because they didn't have a strong media backing (Rhydian was preferred over Leon so he was ribbed at in the press, the same with G4 and Steve) and/or styles of music that couldn't allow for commercial success.

If you think she's gonna flop then you don't know enough about marketing to judge, I'm not a huge fan but the producers behind her and the fact that she's got support from popular Flo Rida almost guarantees her success, people will and are eating that song up.
