Ireland is the country where you live your life the best according to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s quality-of-life index 2005 with a score of 8.333/10.
The survey may be 4 years old, but it's still accurate today. The 111 countries and territories included in this survey were judged on:
Health, Family life, Community life, Material well being, Political stability and security, Climate and geography, Job security, Political freedom and Gender equality.
First runner-up is Switzerland (8.068), third place goes to Norway (8.051)
Here is the survey. (http://www.economist.com/media/pdf/QUALITY_OF_LIFE.PDF)
Do you agree with this result or not ?

I learnt it today in Business English. I was very very surprised Ireland is first. I'd have said either Denmark or Switzerland. Congrats then !

And I'm not even Irish !
I posted this because first I was surprised with the result, I'd have never guessed in a million years Ireland would be ranked as it and also because I wanted to get some reactions from Irish and non-Irish members there like if they feel it's the truth, or it's exaggerated.

Well that Bullshit,
If anything its gotten far better today than 4 years ago,
Irelands progressing, so how excacally are you trying to say that the country went from..
Good (2006) to Bad which is now..
:joker:
Thats a wank of a statement, and your Irish you should know its bullcrap
Even if that survey was done right now, Ireland would still be top.

The Accents are far from bad, Many people love the accents,
I find it funny how I was on Xbox live making fun of American Accents and then one of them said "I love your countries accent" :joker:
Just goes to show, your like the only one that thinks our accent is annoying.
No offence to the FMs from England on here, but if anything..
Your accents far more annoying than ours.. really pisses me off.
And the Rain isnt bad, its accually relaxing, and we do get Sunny Days!
Rain is great!

I wanna move to Ireland. But for this year's survey it's been ranked about 20 places down. I wonder why the hell that is.
If anything its gotten far better today than 4 years ago,
Christ, your mental. Quality of life here is worse and tougher than it was four years ago. It's down to that thing called the economic recession. You may have heard of it. Ireland is a hole right now for the majority. The job opportunities are ****, the education system is ****, and the law enforcement is ****.
Also who is badmouthing my beloved Cork accent? I'll come and bate ye bai, feckin hell like.

18-11-2009, 12:23 AM
in fairness to Patrick, he would have been, what, 9 four years ago so can't really judge the quality of life in Ireland.
I would assume that's gone down now on the Job Security thing, considering almost 15% of the working force are unemployed atm.

It doesnt bother me, Im fine with the weather here.
And Stu I think Ireland is great because of the people and the humour and as you know the recission has hit more places than just Ireland so were all in a hard time but its still a great place and I wouldnt call it a 'Hole' because of the recission.

So why did you say better today than four years ago when every statistic on the planet disagrees with you? Have we gotten slightly funnier over the past four years?
We have great people will great humor, yeah, but that's not going to give you a job and put food on your table. I think that's what counts for people deciding to come here these days [i.e. nobody].
That said, we have our fair share of ignorant, stone age wankers too. Walk down the road with a black top on in this country and nine out of ten teenagers will consider you a devil worshiper.
