On E!'s 'Wildest TV Show Moments' they just showed a clip of 'Trigger Happy TV'. The clip of Dom Joly doing a interview befor ebeing interupted by a man in a gorilla suit - a sketch that was planned, for a sketh show.

Only Americans would think it wasn't planned and that Dom Joly was actually a real TV host.

E! is typically an airhead channel from what I hear, it's got nothing but tacky Celeb reality shows and brain numbing crap like Hills and I love money (I know their MTV shows but they're just examples of the type of programming).

EDIT: I ROFL'd at the fact 11 lines of writing is all that it takes to make you give up Patrick.

Thanks folks. E! and MTV are nothing to go by, those are the trashiest channels on cable television.

and Patrick, I could make John and Edward an example of how stupid some Irish are...but, to be honest, it's not worth the effort. The US has 5 times more people than the UK, yet the UK is still able to be engrossed by US TV and produce as many Z-Listers. Ireland's claim to fame is U2, the US' is Lincoln, Einstein, JFK, MLK Jr., Rosa Parks, George Washington..the list goes on.

I accually read it just after I Posted that an agreed partly with the fact you said most shows are from America and they are good..

But Im saying how the majority of UK TV Is now fulled wih American ****,
Its nice to have a bit of both but when its ALL American and hardly any British things as there is American,
Then it starts to get on my dick!

And the way everytime theres a new version of a UK Show like the way their starting this retarded X Factor USA,
They`ll air in the UK but they DONT air X Factor UK in USA!
So why should we have their bullcrap when we already have shows that we like because their from the UK

He was German-born but is considered an American physicist. He taught at Princeton and that was where he help initially pave the way for the creation of the atomic bomb.

I don't understand amercians humour.

Yeah they think their Hilarious, I was speaking to one of them the other month on Xbox Live Mic, and they told me to Speak Proper,

As in they couldnt understand my Accent yet expect the world to understand their bullcrap Words like "Mom" whats wrong with mUm?
And other retarded phrases that come from their, so they have the nerve to turn round to Anyone from the UK and say "Speak Properly"

When they cant even speak properly,

It still pisses me off how they made JK Rowling change the Name of the First Harry Potter book because Stupid little American kids wouldnt understand The Original English Title, its an English book it should have the Original Name!

Do we make them change the name of their crap TV shows that air in the UK?
No

Thats like saying to them..
"Change the name of Gossip Girl, the English dont understand the word Gossip"

I ant believe how stupid people that open these kind of threads are. Jut like you call americans stupid, thats how French people call you guys stupid. ANd when you say their humor is dumb (yet you pretty much import all the comedy series that they have, wonder why that is), they think your humor is dumb as well. Its all down to where you were raised. I have lived in both countries, and I can appreciate both humor.

Hate to break it to whoever said it, but nobody, and I mean NOBODY outside America considered Einstein 'American'. Also, you shot yourself in the foot with the whole mention of the atomic bomb.

I also hate American humor. British humor is ironic, irreverent and, well, hilarious. American comedy is stupid. And unfortunately our Americanized culture eats it up. But heres a hint : Most people who watch Comedy Central over here are teens. Most people who watch Dave are adults. Our young watch the comedy America's adults watch. Most conventional American comedy shows run something along the lines of :

''Where is my birthday cake?''
''Margery left it in the car, dude!''
''With the dog?''
''Oh noes! The dog!''
''The dog! Oh noes!''

And yes, Americans on Xbox Live are retarded. And yes, I understand every country has it's dopes and smarts, but with regard to the visible exported culture and politics, America is ... well ... abhorrent. Middle class suburban America for the most part is a nightmare. Especially the conservative kind.

Just head to conservapedia and get ready to laugh. Or switch on Fox News. Gawd bless Americah! You ess ay! Whoo!

Somebody on Xbox Live once said to me ''you guys have nothing dude, we got Schwarzenegger mannn!''.

No, it's because Americans don't get our shows. Seriously. I am not being racist, but it is provable. They cant understand them. They just don't get irony. This is common knowledge.

Then a lot of Americans are too sensitive. That's why even a lot of AMERICAN comedians like Bill Hicks had to come to England to find fame.

Anyone on Xbox Live with a mic is retarded. I don't play it myself but just listening to other people play it (whether they're joking around idiodically or getting WAY too into the game, whether they're Australian, American, British, or any other race for that fact) makes me cringe for the state of society. Either way: I don't hate my country, but our TV is the shittest thing ever.

Because someone lives in London, you think they are from here? Idiot!!

And again, your teens are considered the dumbest educated people in Europe, so glass houses comes to mind.

ANd yeah, thats why all of your TV stations export the unfunny american shows. Even the ones that are cancelled that no one gives a fuuk about, are airing here now. YOu call americans dumb, then its dumb and dumber basically.

You hit the nail on the head. I don't bother even using it anymore. Either people are obnoxious, or nobody actually talks. Seriously. Unless you are with your mates in a highly competitive game I have NEVER heard people in any games I have played on it actually talk strategy or whatnot.

As for hating/loving my country, I love the attitude of the typical Irish person [my house is falling down, I have no job, sure jaysus we will be alright. Lets have a dance]. But I am not patriotic about the country itself. Patriotism is just a delusion. A system of control. Did you actually choose your country before birth? Of course not.

Borders existed and borders were broken. Countries were discovered and countries were conquered. It's nothing. Just a plot of land a political system governs.

Nah, the major networks like to make original comedy on their station, not imported stuff. People know about the original The Office here, but its easier for a station to manage the life of their original shows.

Blame the lack of showing British shows in America on BBC America. When they say showcasing some of the best in British television, they mean the Weakest Link, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, The Graham Norton Show, Top Gear, and Cash in the Attic. None of which are humor.

Fonejacker gets aired on Comedy Central here, adult swim. shows The Mighty Boosh along with other British shows on Sundays...don't say that Americans haven't had the exposure to British humor. We've experienced it and still like our own better.

Some of our best humor is The Office (which has grown past its earlier seasons and developed its own humor) and 30 Rock. You're being a bit ignorant if you're basing your opinions off of the likes of the ABC comedy shows. NBC is the comedy leader here.

Bravo, you missed the entire ****ing point of my post. Americans don't like irony in comedy because they don't get it. I am not going against America, it's just a fact. In fact, it's a well known cultural joke even Americans are in on.

I dont care where he is from, regardless, the fact is, if you think you are more intelligent than the americans for some reason, delusional is what I call you. The only thing that I can say for sure they dont have, that most modern coutry do, is general culture. But thats because they happen to be self suffiient in most things, and their society was buit from within. Exactly, Americans can call British humor unoriginal and extremely dry while Brits can call American humor crude and mindless. Family Guy is the prime example of mindless, but rest assure that Family Guy is only popular with the younger crowd, much like whoever was pointing out earlier the tastes of the British youth who like American TV. The same age group around the world enjoys the same TV shows.

I'm a bit dumbfounded at people ridiculing the Americans. I mean starting on the ground with TV, USA has produced some genius shows:

The Sopranos, The Simpsons, Frasier, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, X-Files, Bewitched, ER, Friends [well, early on], Star Trek, Cheers...

ignoring most of today's juggernauts: Heroes, Lost, Law & Order, CSI, FlashForward, True Blood, etc.

Humour/TV aside, when you look at the music/cinema industries, and other fields: politics, science, technology, literature, art...they're certainly not stupid.

Thats just the way it is.
But imo, they produce, some of the best TV shows in the world. But Americans definitely over produce, due to all the diferent TV networks. You DO know most of us don't actually WANT to catch what America spreads and actively resent it?

And you DO you know anything about your own country? The Irish have a huge political and social dynasty in all aspects of American life. A large percentage of Americans claim either German or Irish ancestry. We built quiet a lot of the east coast.

Come to think of it, you Americans are incredibly young. Your all just comprised of transplants from other countries. What is an American? You are US! And you just proved what everybody has been saying in this thread about the sheer ignorance of your country :

Each country has its own possibility for criticism in a certain sect.

America has 304,059,724 people.
The UK has 60,943,912 people.
Ireland has 4,156,119 people.

Since America has more than 75x the amount of people in Ireland, there are more chances for criticism. The entire world has radically religious groups too, except it's magnified because of the magnitude of people in America and the world-focus on American affairs.

By the way, if you're trying to make out that Americans are unsophisticated, please learn the difference between "their" and "there" before you ridicule us.

By the way, if you're trying to make out that Americans are unsophisticated, please learn the difference between "their" and "there" before you ridicule us.
Never did try to make that out. And never claimed to be a spelling bee. Your really bad at this, aren't you?

And this is from the country that changes English words and there accepted spelling for entirely no reason?

You DO know most of us don't actually WANT to catch what America spreads and actively resent it?

And you DO you know anything about your own country? The Irish have a huge political and social dynasty in all aspects of American life. A large percentage of Americans claim either German or Irish ancestry. We built quiet a lot of the east coast.

Come to think of it, you Americans are incredibly young. Your all just comprised of transplants from other countries. What is an American? You are US! And you just proved what everybody has been saying in this thread about the sheer ignorance of your country :

The Irish only gave the world Bono & The Potato Famine? I bashed the underbelly of America when acknowledging and respecting it's great achievements and dominant culture. You claim Ireland just gave the world Bono and a Famine.

Read some ****ing Joyce and get back to me.
Maybe you don't understand the meaning of the quote, when America suffers the world does as well. And yes I do know the history of my country, but to be honest, the Irish took just as much part in building America than any other country. I'm not saying that Ireland did nothing, I'm just saying it doesn't deserve recognition over other countries for "building a large part of the east coast". If we're talking in that sense, the English did.

America is a melting pot, but what's funny is that you're basically bashing a culture that your people created. And glad you picked up on the ignorance of my comment, but you were magnifying the "Gawd Bless America" perspective to represent the entire country. I hardly call what you've been saying "acknowledging and respecting its great achievements and dominant culture", but either: a) I'm getting the anti-Americans mixed up in this thread or b) it's "humor" that my silly American mind doesn't understand.

Another thing that irritates me, that the british people say, it was dumbed down for the american audience. WHo the Fcuk says that?
The fact is, they dont find most british shows, or program, because they find it boring. I find most of them boring. YOu guys dont because you are used to it. Go talk to some British who have grown up in the US, and see what they think. GO ask people what their favorite TV shows are, and see what they say, even here in the UK.

I am not American, I have been exposed to their culture, and I have been exposed to the British culture as well. But I call it, how I see, it. At least, over there, I didnt have to deal with snobbery.

And to the person who said Irelands 'Claim to fame is Bono and U2'

That just proves how you think every country Wants to be 'Famous' in the way America is,

Countries like Ireland and England arent as self centered and In your face, as America is!

Thats why Ireland dosent need to have Hundreds of Superstars and Cheesy Movies to be a good country!

Just look at that thread posted yesterday about Ireland being the best Country to live in, Is America even on the Top 10?

Nope,

Like some other American said in this thread..

"As the Good Old saying goes, When America Sneezes the Whole World gets a cold"

I think it's a cultural thing really. America is a relatively new country and with that comes a certain youthful naivety in how they live their lives and express themselves. They don't have the trials of history that weigh heavily on European's minds and so they refuse to look at the more grey areas of life, and instead ride out in pursuit of their dreams and ideals.

I'm actually rather fond of this trait that can be found in many Americans but it sometimes makes them very rigid in how they approach life, incapable or unwilling to accept or understand other ways of life. They don't like to dwell on the darkness... on the chaos that's lurking within us all, which means that some of our humour and idiosyncrasies are lost on them - bewildering to them even. They're an insular kind of nation really.

Compare and contrast. I was clearly never blanketing the whole of America. It's your problem that you think I was. And it's your problem that you fought this with reverse ignorance. And it's your problem if you think today's American culture is something the Irish created.

A total of 36,495,800 Americans (more than 12% of total population) reported Irish ancestry in the 2006 American Community Survey.

The definition of an ignorant member right here.

"That just proves how you think every country Wants to be 'Famous' in the way America is" - That's quite a stretch there. You're analyzing my words too much; "fame" doesn't mean simply in the entertainment industry, it means notoriety. Hitler's famous, but I'd hardly call him an entertainer.

"Countries like Ireland and England arent as self centered and In your face, as America is!" - The members in this thread (including yourself) prove you wrong.

"Thats why Ireland dosent need to have Hundreds of Superstars and Cheesy Movies to be a good country!" - But if they could, they'd jump on it like hell.

"Just look at that thread posted yesterday about Ireland being the best Country to live in, Is America even on the Top 10?" - Irish are the farthest thing from self-centered, eh?

"

:joker: Its not a GOOD OLD Saying, but I find it funny how Americans take that as a compliment, that proves how America think there the only country in the world just because they have alot of people!" - No, we don't think that because we have "alot of people" (grammar mistake there, but I suppose since Ireland's such a great country to live in grammar doesn't matter!), it's because America is the economic center of the world apart from China. I'm not saying our social customs are the greatest, I dislike the Bible Belt as much as anyone else here and I live in it - but economically and politically we are one of the most powerful countries in the world.

lol

Depends what part I suppose,

Its great, and this survery about the Most Easiest Country to live in, was done 4 years ago when Ireland was still sort of bad...

Now though 4 years later I think if that Survey was to be done again, Ireland would still win because its still a great place and getting better

Sorry, getting you and your fellow Irishman mixed up in some quotes.

Surely people of Irish ancestry (as well as every other ancestry in the world) are pioneering today's culture, so no need to flash the fact that 12% of Americans claim Irish ancestry.

of course you have seen a lot of Americans on youtube complaining about it. Its only natural. Who goes on Youtube to watch UK shows? The people who are interested in the British shows of course. NAturally they will be complaining. But thats a minority of people. There are always exception to the rule. The average audience, doesnt go on Youtube to look for UK shows.

ANd guess what, you have the U TV shows shoved down your throat, because people want to watch them. If people didnt, it wouldnt be on your screen. Same reason why the UK shows arent on TV asede from some specialised networks, because people dont want to watch them.

I'm generalising here of course but I would disagree with you on this to a certain extent. There's still huge class divisions in America and they're far more draconian in how they hand out punishments, especially towards the lower classes. You were a foreigner to them and so they were obviously more welcoming.

But anyway my main point is in attitudes we're hugely different... in how we live our lives. America is the be all and end all to most Americans. That's very true.

Different strokes for different folks, but remember don't be bigots when it comes to other cultures or stereotype people based on their country.
