I can understand this POV - dont forget that most ministers do around 3 funerals per week (hardcore if you think about what it entails) and dont forget where these particular funerals are being held etc..

Surely its up to the family how they want to mourn their lost ones...and if that means listening to Celine Dion (wouldnt be my choice) then so be it

That would be the case if they were booking a funeral like one books a wedding reception but not if they are having it in a Christian church.

Maybe he should just keep his opinions to himself and do his ****ing job.

Pop music... popular music, which touches a lot more people than old hymns they only listen to or sing along with if they have to. If pop music emotes the feelings more suitably, what's the problem?

If I want Sympathy for the Devil played at my funeral, then it's gonna happen.

I won't be having my funeral in a church anyhow so it makes ***** all difference to me:joker:

I am sure that if I go up to the dj booth at G.A.Y. and ask for "My Jesus I Love Thee I Know Thou Art Mine" they would be most accommodating?

People dont really have a range of choice where to go for their funerals they go where everyone else goes...where the graveyards are....

No wonder Christianity is on the decrease. Where in the bible does it say "thou shalt suck the comfort and joy out of everything"?

What a cantankorous old *****. If people want pop music played at their funeral then why not? It's the final time something will be all about them so they should be allowed to have it how they want it. The customer is always right after all.

and there in lies your and their mistake. You are not a customer and it is not like booking a dj for a friends reunited reunion.

if you try and understand what a Christian funeral is and entails then you can see the chap's point without resorting to name calling.

imagine what it may be like to do 3-4 funerals per week, see all the sorrow etc . Most people do 3-4 in a lifetime.

The answer is, boycott the joyless, miserable, mealy-mouthed Christian service, and have a Humanist service, or a Pagan service. Something that's a bit of a celebration of the person's life rather than a ceremony where a miserable old sod can refuse you a song that might comfort you, but allow you to have a 200 year old durge about burning in hell and being a hopeless sinner.

Money exchanges hands does it not? People pay to have a funeral in a church correct? Then they have the right to decide how the service goes. This vicar's policy will probably end up being reversed by his superiors since it will dent into the church's profit.

If he can't cope with so many funerals then perhaps he should look at another job since they kind of come with the territory.

What makes you think just because you're christian you know better then everyone else? How people decide to have their funeral is their business, there is no right or wrong way of doing it.
