Seeing as how in another thread Wannashag got me to thinking of covers.

I love this one (when mashed or hard at work) - it takes a while to come into the mix (about forty seconds) but it's Aha's classic - Take On Me

there's no greater cover than the rolling stones version of the legendary robert johnson song "love in vain" in my opinion

wash your mouth out with soap and water
the zutons version of valarie is a million miles better than winehouse
i'm not saying winehouse is a bad artist, cos she's not, she's a good singer
but still that's a bad shout

I usually can't stand Amy Winehouse but Valerie was always played on tour so I adore that song. Other covers I like Relight my Fire by Take That, the Elephant Love Medley in Moulin Rouge is loads of covers shoved together,so that too.

A lot of the time I don't even know covers are covers.

Ah but they were probably off their tits when they wrote it and so the great circle of life continues!

I have to agree with Wannashag re Comfortably Numb! I remember feeling shock and horror when I first heard what The Scissor Sisters had done! T'was sacrilige!! It is definitely the worst cover of all time!

That's the first time I have heard Paramore covering "Use Somebody" and to be honest I'm not very impressed with it..

I had forgotten all about Limp Bizkits "Behind Blue Eyes".. I much prefer their cover over the original by The Who.

In general, I think covered songs are usually (but not always) better in their original form. (apart from Bob Dylan songs, whose are always better covered as, although he can write good songs, he can't sing worth a xxxx)

I do however like this cover of Candi Staton's You've Got the Love

U76QmKG-stU

I also hated this cover of The Skids' The Saints are Coming and then grew to like it but on just listening to it again I am undecided...

In defence the original may be too long and not radio or TV friendly.

Miley Cyrus murdered that song. It was a classic 80's song no need to ruin it.
