Why in 2009 is the only real help for alcoholism AA, what with their "Higher Power" thang?
seems like medical science has given up on it?

New Labour has given up on it so much
12 long years wasted.

As the NHS doesn't have enough money to go around - their money needs to be spent on more important things like cancer care - rather than on self-inflicted conditions like alcoholism.

I wouldn't agree with you on that, seeing as the government places huge taxes on alcohol in the first place and it's a legal drug so they have an obligation to care for people who develop issues relating to it. It's an illness, just like any other.
