Giving gifts of money at Christmas?

Is this just a lazy cop out because you cant be arsed to buy a thoughtful gift or is it because you have not kept in touch enough with the recipient that you have no idea what they would like.

No, it's actually one of the smartest things you can do, as said person can then get themselves whatever they fancy or put the money towards something useful.

i personally hate giving money/vouchers my step bro always asks for them but i also get a small gift cos it dont feel right not having something to open

if the person asks for money then it is not a lazy cop out. Better to receive money than a present the recipient does not really like.. lol

my friends like that she always buys me something at christmas because shes says she would rather give something then give me money. I dont usually ask for money either i usually ask for presents but i still get money sometimes. I prefer vouchers than money really

I have nieces and nephews that live a looooooong way from me and it's easier to post them money or vouchers. I give my notoriously difficult-to-buy-for sister-in-law vouchers because she always hates whatever I buy her. I realised vouchers were the answer when it occurred to me I should just take her prezzie straight to the charity shop and cut out the middle man.

No because if you apply further logic and think for four seconds in front of your face, some people do make it quiet clear they want something from somebody, not money.

Exactly. The best of both worlds.

There is no one thing or model a present should be or should be based on. The world is a little more complex than that and different people have different tastes. It's worrying that some have such a bland, narrow view of the world.

If the thing I want is more expensive than I expect, then I'll ask for money towards it. If the present is within my gift-price range then I'll ask for the gift.

Generally, though - I don't really celebrate christmas with gifts (there are some exceptions just to make it mutual) - so I don't ask for either.

I never ask for money but it's just easier sometime. Like then you can go and choice your own present. I get money off most of my relatives(like granny,aunts and stuff)

I get money now really, except from my mother and sisters who get my presents. I just generally buy everyone DVDs, you can't go wrong with them.

This year I am just getting money from everybody but that's to buy a synthesizer which matters more to be than anything else anyway.
