Saying Awesome in the UK results in people looking at you saying "What a Bellend"
Saying it in America results in people saying "Yeah dude I totally thats so cool..."
You can see the diffrence, Dont say Awesome its a **** word.
I however have said Dude just to my friends when im trying to get their attention as they talk over me alot.

Thanks for the intriguing cultural background there, and the additional tips as to what we can and can't use.

I say awesome from time to time, but can't say I use 'dude'.
But whatever. Go **** yourself, dude.
I say awesome on a day to day basis, but not in the American way. I don't think I could ever say dude without taking the piss.

what we abhor about the USA we adopt 3 years hence

You know it's all just words, right? I mean, they have our entire language, if you want to put it that way. You probably use dozens of words that have come from American culture without realising it, and vice versa.

I'm the same. I don't even think it's to do with the whole pot culture, I think there is just an overwhelming urge to say 'man' when your bonkered that's very difficult to explain.

most of the words that we find unusual from America are just words that we used to say in the past. We exported them over and they have as yet not changed where back here we have moved on
pants for trousers
sidewalk
closet
all words used in the UK 100 or so years ago
there is NO excuse for the way they say Pasta however
Also, this mysterious terrorist group known as Al Kaydah are really starting to bug me.
