View Full Version : I prefer the Star Wars prequels to the originals

I watched all the episodes over the past week in order (from episode 1 to episode 6)

Yup, not sure why, but I find the prequels a lot better, perhaps its because I was still a kid when they were coming out, I like the originals still, but I dont know, they seem kinda empty (except from the last one) compared to the prequel films. The characterization in the prequels is a lot more intresting than the ones in the originals.

Though Jar Jar Binks is one annoying twat

*Prepares to be shot :spin:*

I thought Episode IV was worse then then all the prequels

But V And VI are better then the prequeals although III and V are pretty close

III > II > I > The rest.

Only seen the newer ones (I, II & III)

IV > II > I > VI > III > V

Oh, it's the Star Wars films?

V > VI > III > II > IV > I

I agree that Episode 1 was the worst of the films, due to the overly long and silly podrace sequence, and Jar Jar, but I think it was meant to be more light hearted than the rest, Episode III is my fave

You're all insane. The originals are far superior.

Why?

because you remember watching them as a kid in the cinema possibly?

Weird....its the same with me and the prequels :elephant:

Do I really have to get into the whys? Please don't ask me to do that. Ok, the main thing is heart and soul. Sorely lacking in the prequels.

Bang on the money. Nostalgia is everything. Free from any tiring cinematic criticisms.

Well, I think the originals are quite empty, I much prefer Anakin to Luke

Okay that is pretty special, I will admit. Anakin's character was absolutely pathetic and Hayden Whatshisface can't act for ****.

You've lost it. lol. Anakin wasn't likeable at all in what was obviously a pivotal role for the prequels, seeing as Lucas never introduced any real human warmth to the films and allowed it to stay within the sterile confines of the Jedi ranks. It badly needed a Han Solo type character plus the originals were fortunate enough to cast Luke so well.

And, most importantly, the scripts were absolutely appalling. Some of the dialogue was cringeworthy.... no no, most of it was.

Well, I liked his character  but I agree, the acting was quite terrible for him, and Mark Hamill is a much better actor

but to be honest, I'm never really bothered about acting, as long as it isnt too **** (look at certain cast members of soaps), I think Hayden's was okay, and not too distracting

Hayden was the birth of the massive influx of emo lead characters in action movies this decade.

I blame all the world's problems on him.

And the actual reason given for him turning to the dark side was so, so, so incredibly weak it was unbelievable. Episode III made him look like the most gullible tosser on the planet and this is the super awesome Darth Vader from the first three?

Folks, we're talking Matrix Revolutions ending style catastrophe here.

Scarlett.
26-11-2009, 09:38 PM
I disagree, he had been edging toward the dark side since episode II, he was just pushed over the edge in episode III, it made me feel sorry for Darth in the original films xD

Look the prequels were cat. Lucas needs to back off or just retire and let someone else give it a go cuz he's ruining them. It's no coincidence that the Jones sequel last year was rubbish too.

he does knida need to back off now, the prequels were enough in my book, but theres still that Clone Wars seires thing going on isnt there?

But your not meant to feel sorry for Darth. He is a super awesome badass guy with severe laryngitis and I want it to stay that way, dammit!

I seriously don't know how anybody could like the Anakin story, it's so feeble! The guy is shown to have virtually no willpower at all and merrily hops over to be the dark sides bitch because he is FruSTrated with Lyf YARGHHHHH!.

He may as well have worn a My Chemical Romance T-Shirt FFS.

Super Awesome Badass guy? Isnt he actually the real hero? Since he ends the Empire's reign, Anakin is quite a emo, and a gullable twat towards the end of episode III, but you have to feel sorry for him xD

I watched a little of one of them and it was more rubbish. Might as well let Michael Bay direct if you're just going to indulge in mindless fights and special effects. So dull.

Get Joss Whedon in here stat.

Get Joss Whedon in here stat. What are they actually about...well apart from the overly obvious "Clone Wars"? I never saw a need to show them, Star Wars has never been about massive battles...okay maybe it has, but it has been about a lot more

Honestly, I was just watching snippets with my younger cousins and I couldn't engage in the "storyline". It was total drivel.

See that's the problem, I can't because of the script and because of who is playing him. But heck, I still enjoyed III. It flows much better than the other two prequels and at least there is that awesome part with Obi Wan screaming at Anakin ''YOU WERE MEANT TO BE THE CHOOSEN ONE!''.

I see, one thing that would have really helped the prequels would be if they showed the things that werent family friendly (meaning the Sand people/Jedi slaughter)

I honestly don't think they should ever have been made or Lucas should have gotten in somebody else to write the scripts and direct the films. They were crap.

I decided, I love all the Star Wars films pretty much the same, the prequels wouldnt have been half as good if we didnt already have the originals, where as the originals were good previous to the prequels, which is an intresting point

Sure he's fecking 67 now and he wants to do another Indiana Jones, the mad, egocentric fecker. But yeah, he was great back then, even though he was just lucky to get Han Solo and Indiana Jones as he was never Lucas' first choice on either film.

I'm actually more of a fan of Costners to be honest with you, even though Ford was up there with Christopher Reeve as my heroes at a young age. Who can forget him playing Superman? So good.

Just ok?? Field of Dreams is wonderful. Eh, what others ones will I throw at you? Dances with Wolves? Fandango? No Way Out? Tin Cup? Robin Hood?

Did you know that Tom Selleck was supposed to be Indiana Jones and I've always argued with people that I think he would have been excellent in the role.

What he said. Star Wars Prequels were pretty boring films, I thought. Probably alright to watch once for the effects, but that is it.

Problem with the originals these days is the special effects are probably pretty creaky looking to today's audiences by comparison to what else is out there.

I think the originals are better, the characterisation was better I thought and Mark Hamill was a better lead Actor then Hayden Chris....thingy. Saying that I haven't watched the third one yet so I can't completely judge the prequels as a whole.
