I'll admit, they don't get respect, especially on the estates, they have a massive 'anti pig' attitude.

9/10 Policemen I have dealt with are dicks. I'm sure they are not all bad but certainly most of the ones I have dealt with maintain a hardline, big boy, holier than thou attitude. You must admit, the Police will generally attract a very special type of wanker in society.
As bad as chavs are for wanting to 'have a go' at the law, it also works reverse in many cases. I don't feel the need to automatically respect the Police because I don't respect all of the laws they uphold.

I have respect for the law, but I don't kiss arse. The police could do a much better job. Don't mind me smoking weed, what about the rapists and murderers out there? Oh yeah that's right, it's just much easier for you to arrest me.

It would be a very scary world without them - we wouldn't be safe in our homes! I don't think people think about that when they complain about them. Yes, of course, there are some rotton apples - but without law and order - life would be very unpleasant indeed!

Do you actually believe that or have you made this post to get a "**** THE POLICE" responce?
But yeah, **** the police, they do not do a great job at all. The concept of police is excelent, and while i recongise our need for them, it is a concept that can never be put into practise properly as it is in human nature to sterotype, which leads to discrimination, which leads to them being biased, ie, aresting us for eating while black, or as they put it "your under arrest because we have had several reports and substancial evidence that you have been drug dealing", because yes, i make a killin sellin drugs while sat in an empty jamaican resteront eating chicken.

Police usually pretty annoying and not often the happiest nicest people.
Hate how people insult them constantly (especially the people who have NEVER been in trouble with police)
The police arent great, but the people they have to deal with are *****.
If i had to deal with druggies and drunks and being abused because im a policeman i wouldnt be soo happy at work either.
Very underpaid job.

I personally have a lot of respect for them in general. They do have their biases, and bad apples of course. BUt that reflects society in general, not just the police force. It just happens that they are in that position. As time goes, they become less and less biased I think.
And most of the time, people tend to like to provoke them, and then are surprised, when they are generally harassed.
As for people saying they are rude and stuff, I completely disagree. A lot of the cops in the US are pretty rude, and very trigger happy. The policemen and Women I have encountered in the UK, are extremely polite. They even shock me sometimes, how accommodating they are, to certain people who dont deserve it. I see them take abuse, and handle situations very calmly, and Im like wow, I cant believe they didnt arrest this guy sometimes!
I say they are very patient, and most of them do their jobs to the best of their ability.
They do a good job in the sense that they do what they're told to do - make easy arrests with minimal paper work. They're completely bound by bureaucratic nonsense, to the point where they can't really be arsed doing anything properly. The ASBO is just a name slapped onto all the pointless police work they do that isn't catching the rapists, murderers and gangs of this country. I nearly got a police caution because I was speaking to people who had booze on them in public. Yeah, I wasn't drinking, neither were they (although obviously were going to) and it took some serious pleading to get them to not take my details. Then, when my younger brother got mugged on the streets, how long did it take for them to get to our house? Over an hour. Did they manage to do anything about it? They did not.
They're not miracle workers, but it'd be nice if they tried.

The police are useless in my experience to be honest.
1) My mothers boyfriend hit her, she rang the police, it took them over an hour to get there. Even though the police station was a 3 minute walk away. The excuse was that they went to the wrong street.
2) Not too long ago I was getting death threats from an ex. Gave a statement etc. only to be told that basically, they could do nothing until something had actually happened to me.
3) Some girl went for me on a night out, I kicked the **** out of her and I get locked up instead of her, even though it was self defence, just because she was in a worse state than me by the time they got there.
Yeah...brilliant eh?

I agree, most of the time they are really nice... sorry for making you think I was a chav but when i was around 14 i would go to the park and drink... none of us would be violent, one night police found us, told us to keep the noise down and went. Respect for the police!
They do a great job outside on the towns too dealing with drunken fights. I hate when people are like "I ficking hate the police!"... why?? They are doing a good job!!

Indeed. Your post pin points what is wrong with the police.Or should I say not so much with the police but the law priorities they abide by in part due to lack of manpower and inefficient ways of working as dictated by government law and red tape.....
Some years ago I was beeing driven to distraction by a noisy neighbour and got so desperate I felt like doing what would be clearly wrong in law.......I phoned the police and asked for help. I told them i was at breaking point and was afaraid of what I may do......
There response was......Oh well tell us before you do.......And oh sorry we cannot send anyone out to help.....
Thanfully I kept my cool and got the matter resolved by another authority........
On another issue I reported a dangerous dog to the police (Yes same neighbour) and to the dog warden each passing the buck to the other....Nothing was done by either warden or police and a couple of weeks later a 72 year old man walking his two dogs were attatcked and bitten by the animal I reported....That could have been prevented.
Back on topic the problem is with authority jobs and uniforms is that the putting on of a uniform can turn a mouse in to a monster. Just like some meak and mild persons once behind the wheel of a car become something else......Uniforms are corrupting that's a fact.....Also the moving out of uniform to that of special branch etc lead to internal behavour that is snobbery and internal war fare amongst those we hope would be better....
The above statement is based on some personal knowledge be it many years ago now......

I agree wholeheartedly since I've had dealings with many police from my years in the pub trade, and the majority of them are hypocritical douchebags who drink after hours and drive home pissed as farts and yet while on duty they act like intolerant little morons, particularly the younger generation who seem to enjoy the power they wield a little too much. You may feel secure that's good.. But are you secure in reality that's the question....!!!!!!
Hear this I'll keep it brief.......A train journey home from holiday with friends......London to Birmingham.......A wrapped gift from abroad resting on train table.....Suddenly a guy walks past a puts his fist down on the gift with a force that might have killed if done to a person......Then a friend of mine gets up and pins this guy to side of the train door......Does not hit him or threaten him just restrains him.....
Along comes another guy demanding the villian is released by my friend.......Who was the other guy.......Yeah one of your "secure" friends a plain clothes copper more interesting in deffending the villain and chastising my friend for containing the nutter with a mad fist......
As I said you may feel secure but sadly there are a lot of nutters in the police be they uniformed or in plain clothes......

Everything could be run better - but, in the end, if you needed help ie. some weirdo was threatening or stalking you - you would want their help!

Well a lot of the time they don't actually do anything, so not really no.
I think the entire judicial system is a joke, from the trainee police officers right up to the judges at the High Courts.

Police drivers use their authority to get places faster as well, like its really annoying when a police van puts its sirens on so you shift out the way, only for it to drive through red lights and turn them off! That makes me really angry

The Police are pretty poor really, too bothered about giving ASBOS to 14 year olds rather than catching Paedophiles and sex trafficing gangs. Plus they spend so much stopping knife and gun crime on the inner city estates, if scumbags want to kill eachother, let them.

The real reason why I feel like that is (I guess) because my relative, brother-in-law and nephew were policeman also my ex boyfriend was detective. So,,,,,,.
