I'm stuck.

Maths homework.

Trigonometric graphs and equations.

And I'm in the top class in my year.

It says..

Solve these equations, correct to 1 decimal place, for 0 ≤ x ≤ 360.

3 tan x° = 4

Can someone help me?

EDIT: SOLVED

lmao Daren.

No, this is actually homework.

And I'm terribly stuck.

None of my friends know either.

First, tan x = 3/4 ==> sin x = 3/5 by using sohcahtoa and the 3-4-5 right triangle.

Next, sin(pi - x) = sin pi cos x - cos pi sin x = sin x.
Since tangent has period pi, tan(pi+x) = tan(4pi+x) = tan x.

Next,
cos(3pi/2+x) = cos(3pi/2) cos x - sin(3pi/2) sin x = sin x
cos(5pi/2-x) = cos(5pi/2) cos x + sin(5pi/2) sin x = sin x

So,
(sin(pi - x) + tan(pi+x) + tan(4pi+x)) /(cos(3pi/2+x)+cos(5pi/2-x))
= (sin x + tan x + tan x) / (sin x + sin x)
= (sin x + 2 tan x)/ (2 sin x).
= (3/5 + 2 * 3/4)/ (2 * 3/5)
= 7/4.

Just say you couldn't do it, if you copy what LT put above, they'll probably ask you to explain it.

Firewire

I can't say I couldn't do it.

I don't have that type of teacher.

I would be DEAD if I don't have it done.

You forget a pencil. You get your head bitten off.

x=tan^(-1)(4/3)

so the principle value is 53.1
but x can also be 233.1 in the 0<x<360 range

Ross

Give him head then. "Sir, I couldn't do it I'm sorry but I can make it up to you... please."

Stu

Tell him you have taken up a keen interest in philosophy, and simply can't commit to a piece of homework that you don't know for sure exists.

Worked for me for about eight years. I think.

I get it now.

4/3 = 1.33

Tan ^-1(1.33) = 53.1

Thanks anyway.

If sin x° = 0.3 and cos x° = -0.7, 0 ≤ x ≤ 360, calculate the value of tan x°.

:(

Is that not just 0.3/-0.7 because sin/cos? I'm terrible at math though.
