M.I.A. Incredibly talented, artistic and intelligent. People listen to Paper Planes and think she is just another rapper.

These threads are great, anyway...

Depeche Mode baby. Inevitable I would mention them, I know, but to be fair they are genuinely underrated. Twelve studio albums and thirty years of touring have earned them a huge following in Europe and America but in they're own home country they are known by most as ''that 80's band what that done that Saturday's song''.

They are not that far off U2 in total album sales however they fail to get any airplay whatsoever while U2 get an entire ****ing day devoted to them on BBC for the launch of they're new album.

Electrophobia, ladies and gentlemen.

I will post more later.

Goldfrapp for me. They're music is so intricate, so beautiful, so complex yet they have never received the recognition they deserve, they're just looked at as another electropop duo most of the time.

Agreed strongly on the Verve and M.I.A. Also, I'm going to throw Bat For Lashes into the mix. Critics went crazy for her but she never reached the lofty heights Little Boots or La Roux did this year.

JEDWARD! looool x

no erm.
I would have said Kasabian before this year, now they're the new Kings of Leon. *facepalms*

Maximo Park don't get enough attention.

From yesteryear - Mott the Hoople. Adore them. [but they are Bowie's prodigies, so... :p] and Slade.

an amazing girlband,, great first song they made, now their 2nd song is great toooo :D

Some people might think I'm a bit weird for saying this because they're kind of high profile, but Snow Patrol. Most only really recognise one song by them, and Leona made one of their songs massive so they get kind of overshadowed in both respects

The Prodigy. Liam Howlett has some superb electronic sensibilities, tinged with a rock fanaticism. They have some absolutely thumping tracks with great sounds and hooks but a lot of people write them off as cheese rave.

No way are they the most underrated ever but these lads put a smile on my face because they're nutjobs, but very gifted musicians.

Goldfrapp are great. I remember seeing them on Jools Holland yeeeaaaars ago, performing Black Cherry. At the end, Alison started playing a Theremin, or something similar. I was blown away.

also, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. These guys should be selling out arenas man, but they're quite unknown to most and get very little radio play. They've released 3 excellent albums in a row and while the critics like them no one seems to know them. Their 'It's Blitz!' album was better quality electropop than anything else that's jumped on the electro bandwagon this year.

I like their latest one best but also love the first album. I think their second LP was a tad lost in direction. Still great though.

Are we limiting this to bands who have had some commercial success in the UK but are largely overlooked? Otherwise this'll turn into a 'please love MY favourite unheard of band' sesh. (Mando Diao, Goldspot, (We Are) Performance - if anyone's interested )

Yeah, she has a band. A bit like Marilyn Manson I guess, who are in fact a band [rotating members and all] but most only recognize Mazza.

I guess she's both really. In the studio she plays all the instruments herself, but she has a live band.

The Band were magic but probably got a little overshadowed because of the fact they worked with Bob Dylan for quite awhile. Still though, they're exceptional musicians.

Pretty gay of me to be mentioning this band in the first place but they had some killer tracks, even though they bordered and tipped over into silliness on so many occassions. Still though, they had some great tracks.

I'm going to base mine on artists before anyone starts!

Jack Penate
His first album was great, had amazing singles particularly. But his new 2nd album is just beautiful, it's called 'Everything Is New'. The vocals, perfect. Production, perfect. Drums, amazing. Every song, BRILLIANT. He should really have that success the likes of the hype that James Blunt, Kings of Leon, Robbie Williams etc have had. But then again I love owning his album and knowing that not everyone in the country is overplaying it!!

The Golden Silvers
Everyone needs to hear their song 'True Romance', it's such a hit! (But not... as of yet). Could be a band to look out for though.

Paloma Faith
She's had some success but a song like 'New York' or 'Stone Cold Sober' should be far more successful. Her album is simply stunning and her voice is close to perfect. She's also a really interesting person which adds to her quality as an artist.

Frankmusik
'Better Off As 2' #26 .... eh, NO. #1 more like, uh huh.
Enough said!

Paloma Faith and Frankmusic are selling out buildings and filling up those five stars everywhere they go right now. And they are only going to get bigger. I don't see how they are underated when they are relatively new acts that are getting plenty of attention. It's like saying Florence & The Machine are underrated. Just because you like an act so much that you think everyone should listen to them...

Fair enough, maybe I am just judging it too much on chart positions/record sales because these acts haven't sold nearly half as much as they should. Which is an underestimation in my eyes...

No doubt Frankmusic should be selling more. Not too big on Paloma.

Anybody who compares Spice Girl's to Girl's Aloud though has serious brain damage. Spice Girls were a short lived cultural phenomenon. Girl's Aloud are a pop music phenomenon.

They're ****ing fantastic.

Smashing Pumpkins - I know they're my favourite band so it's a bit "hai here's my fave band I'm gonna shovem in your face lololol" of me, but I genuinely think that alot of the songs written are really sensational and not taken notice of enough.

Brigade - Not very heard of but a great band who don't really fit themselves into a musical envelope.

Fony - Not to everyone heres tastes, but so much great writing. Quite a diverse band aswell genrewise.
