Titanic goes without saying at this stage.
From recent memory it would be The Departed, Crash, Slumdog, A Beautiful Mind and Mystic River. From earlier I'll go with Das Boot, Goodfellas, Out of Africa, Some Like it Hot and a few of Wayne's Westerns didn't do much for me, like Rio Bravo. Oh, and Forrest Gump.

I'd agree with Forrest Gump, probably cos it's quoted so much. Twilight films deffo, and yeah Slumdog, way too much hype.
I'm not sure does anyone with a clear head over the age of say ... twenty ... rate Twilight at all.

Kill bill - was just poor.

I watched Twilight just to see what all the commotion was about.... absolute garbage and I'm a big aficionado of vampire flicks. Silly, plotless teen romance flick shrewdly wrapped in a gothic coat to appeal to the forlorn teen brigade. I wouldn't mind if it had a sharp script or some element of wit involved but it was sorely lacking in really any sparkle.

Indiana Jones
I like Titanic. Always have, always will. :(
If anyone says Gone with the Wind, I'll have to slit your throat.
As much as I love this film, Grease. Just look at the storyline. Boy meets girl. Boy rejects girl because she's too "pure". Girl turns into a dirty slut. Boy gets back with girl. Bearing in mind, this is all still in high school! How would people react if this was in modern day Britain? :P

I think The Godfather as a trilogy is very overrated, the first 2 are great but the 3rd just kills it.
The Shining and The Dark Knight.
Now I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuge Batman and DC fan, but this movie was shite. Didn't get what all the fuss was about. And then everyone started dressing up as the joker for halloween. Jesus ****ing christ.

lol I like the dark night but the one thing that makes me not want to watch it, is batmans voice in it. It is so annoying! It makes you want to clear your voice, so he does it too.

Slumdog Millionaire was hugely overrated. I never got why it was better than any other romantic movie. And playing Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in a film is very random.

Lord of the Rings
Tom4784
06-12-2009, 04:30 PM
Wizard of Oz for me, First time I watched it was this year or last year for Media (can't remember which) and I just didn't get it. It's probably because I didn't watch it as a kid but I just didn't get why it's so highly praised outside of it's technical achievements.
I'm not a huge fan of LOTR either, faithful adaption? yes but it's annoying that you have to put aside so much time to watch them. I'd like them more if they didn't drag so much.
The Dark Knight was fantastic but it is overrated in the vein that people are calling it one of the finest movies ever.
Rocky, overrated? Ah come on now. Sure there were a few stinkers [III, V and Balboa, although the latter was just flat] but those films have a place in my heart free from criticlal evaluation .
Lord Of The Rings is not overrated either in my opinion. It was about as perfect an adaption as you could get. Some people just don't have the attention span for it. That probably includes me.

With all the great effects and stuff in LOTR, plus the acting and stuff, I don't think they're overrated. And i'd rather them be long, would not be able to keep as close to the books if they were any shorter really.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the Bourne Trilogy. Never caught the appeal, both bore the **** out of me.
Dom:)
06-12-2009, 04:43 PM
Slumdog,titanic and twilight
The Wrestler bored the absolute **** out of me, and I'm a huge wrestling fan. The pacing was terrible and it just felt so dull and lifeless for the most part.
setanta
06-12-2009, 04:50 PM
I fecking loved the Wrestler. Mickey Rourke was robbed!
Slumdog,titanic and twilight
Considering Slumdog's past I don't think it's overrated. It was initially set to be a straight-to-DVD film with no release at all, then it got picked up for the Toronto Film Festival where it won People's Choice and then it escalated from there.
Plus I'd never think any Film4 Production is overrated. :p

I haven't seen it because I thought Batman Begins was okay but overrated. Actually, come to think of it, the Tim Burton Batmans got quite a lot of praise and were successful but I found them a bit dull.

Loved the Harry Potter books growing up, but the films are not quite on par
The Twilight films made the books far more popular than the books made the films.
As for Harry Potter I'm actually a fan. Easy to read, well done characters, fully realized immersible world, good twists, overall good story.

I discount that one really to tell you the truth because of the time gap and the problems involved with making it and getting everyone back on board. Coppola never wanted to make a third but I think the money was too appealing to him after awhile.

I don't really consider the Godfather a trilogy either. The first two are perfect, the third is almost like a separate spin off that should have been subtitled as opposed to 'Godfather III'.

I hate Tom Cruise, and don't find him in the slightest bit attractive though and Lestat would've been my Edward Cullen lol
:joker: as a actor if given the right role he's brillant

Yeah, he is a good actor alright, I just hated him being Lestat, I even prefered when Stuart Townsend played Lestat in Queen of The Damned (eventhough the film was shocking lol)

Revenge of the Sith
Sure, it's the best of the prequels... but so's the turd the dog outside my building just birthed. The dialogue is so bad it actually makes me want to scratch my face and bite at my genitals in a nasty fashion. Dear Lord, George -Hack- Lucas, what have you done with yourself?! You've destroyed your mind by spending two decades masturbating over slave Lea when you should have been being creative, rather than leaving your house once a year to collect awards you no longer deserve. The image of Darth Vader has now been tarnished beyond repair; no more shall I see him as the evil bastard who haunted my childhood... now he's just a whiney, easily-led little bitch.
***** you, George Lucas. ***** you very much.
