Apart from being a monstrous marketing con is it really just about getting a shag?

No. It's about confidence and identity I think.

Ultimately you are trying to get people to like you or shag you.
Its like the bollox you hear from boob jobbers "confidence" = "i want people to like me and shag me"

I'm married so I'm not looking for someone(except my hubby) to shag me lol, wouldn't say I'm overly fashion conscience though either so I don't know!!
It's all about identity.
*awaits negative comments telling me your still following something, if that's the case everybody is following something*
The only thing I find hilarious are these high end fashionista sorts who's life it is to basically exist in 'fashion' and to look 'fashionable', but to anyone and there gran outside a fashion show, on the streets, they look like a joke.
I'm pretty reserved when it comes to fashion. I don't wear short skirts or low cut tops. I want to look good, sure. If people like what I wear, awesome. But I don't dress for other people, I do it for me.

Is not the reduction in interest in fashion with age not a reaction to a lesser need to need affirmation and sexual contact/find a partner?

That's what it all boils down to. I dress in ways that make me feel good. Evident by the fact that these days if you walk around a town with anything but a cheap tracksuit and an MC Smokemycock ringtone, you will get laughed at by at least seven people on the way home.
If I was dressing to please other people, I would just don a pair of Nike's and a baseball hat.

Fashion is everything. It's about expressing yourself and helping others identify you as a person, the sort of person you are and want to be. It's about feeling good about yourself, about walking outside confidently. It's about knowing you're presenting yourself as you are. It's everything.

There are so many fashion faux pas to be made, but for me, dressing to suit other people is the biggest fashion crime of all. I remember when skinny jeans for guys had just came out and I was the only one who had them and I would get so many funny looks and sniggers but I never once decided to conform because I liked what I was wearing and that's what is ultimately what matters.

Sure I want to look nice, but ultimately if I feel good then I'm happy! I'd look totally ridiculous in a lot of the stuff that's supposedly 'in fashion' anyway tbh!

I absolutely hate to say it - but - I do believe that most young women dress mainly for men. It is about self-confidence - but the ultimate aim is about looking good and attracting male attention. Those that fuss about clothes, hair, make-up etc are man-hunting. I defy any fashion conscious woman to deny it - I say they are telling a porky! Many will attempt to deny it and come up with many other reasons - but, in reality, they want to be fancied!
It is different for guys - they attempt to attract female attention by other means ie. fast cars, peacock displays of muscle etc. All amounts to pretty much the same thing though!

Me too hun, I'm a jeans, tshirt and hoody type of girl. If people want to judge me for it they can feck right off lol! I rarely wear skirts or dresses, if that makes me unshaggable then so be it lol! But I've not done so badly on that score so far so yeah :joker:
Fashion is all bullshit really. I don't follow a particular trend. I don't shop at one certain place. I'd buy anything if I liked it and then I tend to mix and match my clothes. I find some pretty.. uhh.. interesting outfits that way.

Punks had real values though. They couldn't really help it that the movement got big. In that case what you are wearing right now is bound to be a copy of what someone else is wearing. If you know anything about the original Punk movement you know it wasn't fashion driven. If anything it was anti fashion. And those crazy bastards just went ahead and made their own clothes. Punk's have values.
Emo's are a completely different story. Young kids who follow a fashion trend they will one day grow out of with no meaning whatsoever other than to dress a certain way and listen to abhorrent music.
I know plenty of adult punks. How many forty year old emo's have you seen?

To be honest that's not so much of a fashion trend. It's only natural to be influenced by your favorite bands. That's not really a trend because you have a genuine passion for the group.
And that's my defense for wearing eyeliner and leather pants.

Yeah ridiculous prices sometimes. I hate the people who buy because it costs that much though, if you get what I mean.

Oh of course. What we wear mirrors our personality. If someone looks like they haven't made an effort to look half decent, in otherwords, a slob, it probably means they're a lazy good for nothing.
Apart from formal stuff for concerts like the aforementioned leather, everything I buy is usually from street markets. Just seven euro T-Shirt jobbies and cargo pants or ripped jeans.
The cargo pants go particularly well with the 'Junglist Movement' T-Shirt I have.
I am rubbish at fashion haha, because of my career I tend to just wear trackies or stretch clothing as it is easier to move around in. If I am not working I tend to just throw jeans and a shirt on or whatever.
