Lily Allen has branded the music industry "sexist".

In an interview with the Daily Post, the 'Not Fair' singer claimed that it is more difficult for up-and-coming female artists to get recognition than it is for men.

"It's more about being a young female, because I think that men can get away with things," Allen explained. "Being a 30-year-old young man, you can get away with more than being a 30-year-old young woman.

"Within a professional environment I don't think that you can get away with as much being a woman as you can being a man. I think that people assume that with people like Duffy and Adele and me and Amy, that we are puppets being run by some men and some big, more powerful men in the background."

She added: "Whereas I don't think people would think the same about Paolo Nutini and James Morrison, you know?

"The sort of legalities and stuff have come a long way in that sense, but there's definitely an undertone of sexism that exists everywhere."

Exactly. The reason it's harder for females to get recognised is that there's far more of them than males, not that the industry is sexist.

Sit the **** down Lily. who got 3 number ones this year? Lady GaGa. Who got 2? Pixie Lott. Who got one? only Lily ****ing Allen. and La Roux. and Alexandra Burke. Who had the fastest selling single of the year? Cheryl Cole. Who won the Ivor Novello? Speech Debelle? Who won Critics Choice at Brits? Florence and the Machine. Who topped the Sound of 2009? Little Boots.

Yeh she is completely wrong on this, women dominate the charts. There is a massive gap for male singers right now.

Lily Allen is still a credible artist. I love her music, I could listen to her songs over and over again, rather than someone like Leona Lewis. Well I do like some songs fom Leona's first albulm but the song "happy" is shite.

every female singer sounds the same. I personally can not tell the different between Rihanna and Britney Spears for example

She's saying that it's harder for older women in there (30+)with kids and British like Lily is, totally agree with her

She's talks a lot about female rights and I agree with it even tbh I'm male :laugh:

So much Bull****. It's way easier to succeed as a female pop star I feel.


Also "pretty women" artists don't get any where near the levels of hate or disrespect that pretty boy artists get so even if the 30+ thing was true then it balances out with the younger artists.

Pretty boy artists are only successful because of the way they look

that isn't the case at all with pretty female singers, can you imagine a horde of straight guys at a Britney concert? (Ok I know she's well past it re. her appearance but you get what I mean :laugh:)

Lily Allen changes her mind all the time, one minute she talks **** about somebody and the next she's all apologetic and then she slags them off again. She needs to grow up IMO.
