thought this would be a cool idea to discuss new albums or old gems. Just say what the last album you bought or downloaded [or were given what with the time of year and all] was and what you think of it. :)

tonight I downloaded Leona Lewis' Echo cos I quite liked Happy and her cover of Stop Crying Your Heart Out. I must say the album is a vast improvement on Spirit. I'm still not blown away by her but at least she's showing a small bit of a growth in becoming an artist.

I also download Allison Iraheta's debut album [she came 4th on this year's American Idol] 'Just Like You'. The first single Friday I'll Be Over U is really catchy and the whole album is a pretty strong debut. It's good pop rock Avril-type music with catchy choruses. Not as good has fellow contestant Adam Lambert's debut offering but still a good album.

The last CD's I got were all from Christmas, and they are:
Rihanna - Rated R
Snow Patrol - Up To Now
Kings of Leon - Only By The Night
Kanye West - 808s and Heartbreak

I like Happy and love Stop Crying Your Heart Out and I Got U from Leona's Echo, but that's all I really have listened to so far, I really should get her album if her other songs are as good as them :)

bought:

Muse - The Resistance - by their standards this is a bit disappointing. The beautiful exogenesis trilogy aside at the end, this doesn't really explore much new territory and there's no real stand-out singles other than Uprising. A few decent tracks, but compared against their previous albums it's a missed opportunity.

VV Brown - Travelling Like The Light - her failure to take 2009 by storm is a crying shame. Though it was a year dominated by female soul-popstars, and she was tipped for big things in the Sound of 2009, she remains an unheard name. The tragic thing is her album, which compared to those of artists who DID make it [Pixie Lott, Little Boots] is fantastic. The calibre of singles such as 'Crying Blood' and 'Shark In The Water', along with album tracks 'L-O-V-E' (you may have heard on the BBC Xmas Movies advert) and 'Quick Fix' make this a high-energy ball of fun that really deserves more attention.

and Fleetwood Mac - Rumours. What can I say? One of the best-selling albums of all time, it's one of my favourites. Every track is pure gold, from their signature tunes of 'Go Your Own Way' and 'Don't Stop' to the fan-favourite 'The Chain'. A must-have.

I listened to this for the first time in years not long ago. Nice little rediscovery. It's inconsistent in places (I still, to this day, can't get into the opening track "Rocks Off"), but the sense of sprawl really makes it memorable. Keith Richards is such a badass vocalist. I wish he would have sung lead in more of their songs.

Definitely - it seems to go "miss, hit, miss, hit, miss, hit, hit, miss, hit, hit, miss..." very sporadically.

Powernoise type stuff, which I dig normally, but they've used too many voice samples and it's driving me berserk.

I just want to listen to the music, not hear some dude say "catastrophic" or "there's blood everywhere" over and over and over.

A lot of the great musicians are already doing other stuff and have left the genre long ago. Converter was certainly one of the best, but announced a while ago that he was moving on to other things. Thankfully he wasn't really big on sampling very often, but would sometimes do so for atmospheric purposes.

Industrial is pretty stale these days. The only people who still listen to it are the rabid cybergoths with synth dreads.

Got myself all the studio albums so far of Echo & The Bunnymen on eBay and enjoyed the hell out of them before wrapping them in tin foil for the old man. As a point of reference most of you will know them as 'the guys that had the song at the start of Donnie Darko'.

Ed Sheeran - +

Had heard most of it on YouTube already. Loved the singles The A Team, Lego House and Drunk. A few more gems on it like Give Me Love, Grade 8 and Kiss Me :) Great acoustic album.

The Killers - Hot Fuss

Of course had the singles for ages but thought its about time I heard the rest of this album. Good decision, Change Your Mind and On Top :worship:

Emeli Sande - Our Version of Events

Didnt like the debut single 'Heaven' and not gone out my way to know much about her. However as shes a rated fresh new artist I though I best give her album a shot. Its nice, a few good songs, but perhaps a bit samey. Might be a grower. Her feature on 'Read All About It' is her best work mind.

Woodkid - Iron (EP)

LOVE. Fantastic music on this EP. Iron is a brilliant song and the other tracks great too! Get listening.

HMV is not what it used to be. I used to go there and to Virgin (many years ago) to buy music that you couldn't get anywhere else. Imports, limited editions, and basically a lot of independent label stuff. Now it's just the same as everywhere else only normally dearer. As Shaun says their prices are totally inconsistent, although I do love instore sales but they don't seem to happen that much any more. The choice of music in store keeps getting smaller and smaller too.
