Amanda Holden set to ruin The Crystal Maze

Cult gameshow The Crystal Maze is to be revived by ITV, a report has claimed.

The new show will have a similar format to the '90s classic but feature Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden as host, according to The Sun.

It is also thought that celebrity contestants will tackle the difficult puzzles and physical challenges rather than members of the public.

A source said: "ITV are huge fans of Amanda and are looking at a number of different gameshow concepts, but this is certainly the one they are excited about. They are spending a lot of money and hope it will surpass - and blow away - the old Crystal Maze."

The original version of The Crystal Maze ran on Channel 4 from 1990 to 1995. Richard O'Brien was the programme's first presenter, while Ed Tudor-Pole fronted the later series.

This is exactly what I thought when I read it. It's the simplicity of those old shows that made them what they are. Introducing huge stage/lighting/sound and visuals is what makes it essentially a new gameshow, and ruins the legacy of what was! :blush:

There will always be the old Glad and the old CM. If people want to see them they can watch Challenge like I do all day and enjoy :D

I wrote to Richard O'Brien when I was a kid asking if they could do a kids version of the show :D he wrote back and said that the show was coming to an end soon and something like that...probably wasn't even him but still, icon. :)

I doubt whether she could ruin that show. From memory it was rather a tedious outing, cheaply made and very camp.

I used to hate Amanda but I found her quite hot in her Circus outfit!

Outside Britain's Got Talent she is not the annoying bint she exhibits on that show.

Aztec was the other zone.

I used to love it when i was a kid and it was shown originally. Even now i still sometimes watch the reruns on Challenge if they are on. Classic gameshow but i'm not sure if Amanda suits the show and if it will still work in the modern era.

I think its one of them things that should just be left in the 90s. In theory it should be really good to come back, but it won't be the same because TV has moved on so much. I liked the Gladiators remake but it was nothing like the original, I looked at it like a different show. It wasn't the same to me because they turned it into a massive glossy production rather than just a giant assault course which it was.

So Tom does not like Amanda

I was a big fan of the Richard O'Brien years. :) It was a close-cousin of Treasure Hunt and Interceptor which were good also.
