This, exactly. Harsh but true.
Sometimes these girls are careless and/or too desperate for money to worry about contraception so "mistakes" happen and abortion could be the only way out of a deep, deep mess.

Well technically most abortions take place when it's a foetus not a baby.

The majority of kids who are abused are abused by their parents. Being a parent doesn't necessarily make a person more sensitive than people without kids.
I don't know about that, I don't like the attitude of some people who seem to see it as a form of contraception
That is very true, but I believe a woman should be physically, emotionally and financially stable before having a child. There are too many girls getting pregnant because of their irresponsibility.

From a philosophical viewpoint an embryo has no rights as it is only a potential and not an actual person and it should not have rights that override those of the pregnant woman.

From a philosophical viewpoint an embryo has no rights as it is only a potential and not an actual person and it should not have rights that override those of the pregnant woman.
It depends on the person, some people only think it is a 'potential person', and some people think it is a living thing from conception.
And even if you were one who thought it was only a 'potential person', after having an abortion and reflecting on it, you can still regret and get in a state over it.
Vicky.

Though to some sick people, it might be.

You're in Ireland, and live under control of the Catholic Church. Irish families have upwards of 5-plus kids per family. Birth control is still seen as sinful. I'm not surprised your mind is so warped when it comes to abortion. Science does not agree with you. It is an embryo, not a baby.

Rubbish. Abortion may be illegal here but the Catholic Church has about as much public influence as Jimmy Saville in Ireland these days. And Irish families on average these days are getting smaller and smaller. In line, if not smaller, than the average of a British family.
As for abortion? A foetus is not capable of thought or emotion. It is not capable of the things that set us apart from what we chop up and kill on a plate every evening.

Ok now because I'm Irish I'm under control of 'The Catholic Church?' That's not patronising at all. I'm not religious,at all. I just personally don't believe in abortion. It's a personal choice, but I won't have people telling me it's not killing a living thing when it clearly is!

I bet none of you would know how hard of a decision it would make to end a little life, think about it if Heidi Fleiss had a baby with that lifestyle, think about how its wrecked childhood would be it might of even been put up for adoption etc etc. A very famous scientist once said that a embryo has the same 'lifestyle' or whatever you want to call it as a plant.
Who runs the schools? Give me a break. Ireland has major issues when it comes to women's rights.
The Church runs some of the schools, yes, but it's purely administrative. Our youth are incredibly secular and can be usually found smoking joints out the back during relgion class. I know this because I was brought up in the system. The one you have no idea about.
Seriously, come here and take a look around. You'd be in for a rude awakening.
