View Full Version : Joe Joe plummets out of the top 10 ... now at #25
He's fallen to #15 already. he was at #2 last week  On average, the winners had only just been knocked off #1 spot
Doesn't bode well for when he releases his first proper single

To say it doesnt bode well is exagerating things when the song choice has been met with a negative response. He's been #1 in Ireland for 4 weeks now anyway, so its not as if the song isn't selling. 750k in 3 weeks is brilliant.

But at this point all other winners have still been in the top 3 ... to drop to #15 his sales must have dropped dramatically this week, and it shows theres no sustainability especially with it being the first single
Ireland is irrelevant, its a tiny market

As I said before, chart competition...
This week's sales : 21,147
Total : 737,505
That's better than I was expecting because when I saw that Joe was #15, I thought that he had probably sold 'only' 15,000.
Compared to the 4th week's sales of other X Factor winners, Joe is #3 despite having the biggest sales drop :
1. Alexandra Burke : hallelujah : 34,400 (-67%)
2. Shayne Ward : that's my goal : 31,700 (-41%)
3. Joe McElderry : the climb : 21,100 (-70%)
4. Leona Lewis : a moment like this : 20,400 (-48%)
5. Leon Jackson : when you believe : 16,500 (-49%)
6. Steve Brookstein : against all odds : 10,800 (-39%)
It was a week of big big sales, that's why Joe has fallen so many places. With 34,400 copies sold this year, Alexandra Burke would have only been #6 in this week's chart (she was ranked #3 last year), Shayne Ward would have been #7 (he was #1), Leona Lewis would have been #16 (she was #1 !) and Leon Jackson would have been #21 (he was #5).

How much did Ratm drop after xmas?
First week they went to #2, next week they then dropped to #39 and then out.

It just means that all the people who wanted it rushed out and bought it early on thats all. A record can hang around the top 5 for several months and still not sell that many copies so the period of time is not all that relevant really. Fact is, three quarts of a million people liked his voice enough to buy his first record. Thats a good base to launch his solo career from.
That record was more about the end of his X factor chapter anyway...not the beginning of his solo career. Thats a fresh start and he needs to get some strong songs or he will fail. Any winner will fail without great songs, no matter how talented. Look at Adam lambert(not a winner, I know); poor songs have hindered his solo career despite huge hype.
His fall continued, he's now at #25.
Not good at all

Is his next single going to be yet another cover? (Journey's dont stop believing?)

It hardly gets or had any radio airplay (at least on Radio 1) anyway. I don't think I ever saw it higher than the 'C List Playlist', which is awful for a winners single. Surprised me really, but I think the novelty might have worn off.

the only reason it sold so well in the first place was people rebelling against the Rage campaign.
aww poor thing, come on Joe! <3

exactly. if joe fans hadn't been buying like 5 copies each he wouldn't have sold anywhere near that much.

I don't think it's Joe though, I genuinely do think that the novelty of XF getting Christmas number one has worn off, hence the campaign, hence the bad chart progress. I think next year will be even worse, assuming they will still be releasing it around the same time.
