In summary:
Cowell quits Idol
Cowell signs deal with FOX for X Factor USA, beginning Fall 2011
X Factor UK pretty much in the ****!
Of course he could fly back and too, but although never a hands on mentor it would make a mockery of the show, especially in the US, should he be mentoring acts on both at the same time
Option 2 is he quits - not one ITV will be happy with.
Option 3 is he axes it - not one ITV will be happy with.
Option 4 is it moves from the lucrative pre-Christmas slots - not one ITV will be happy with.

What is the point of this? Simon is out of his mind now. I hope it flops.
I can see the UK version being moved, the main thing that people hate X Factor for is that it hogs the xmas number one, the show could even gain fans by moving away from there and maybe starting X Factor in January next year here...

Hmm....I can see TXF being moved to a later start. Maybe starting in November, with final in late January? Either way I think XFUK will be the most effected out of all of this.

And as a result, Britain's Got Talent and Dancing on Ice will also be affected.
If Cowell was replaceable it wouldn't be so bad - but he simply isn't on The X Factor, though I would say he is on Britain's Got Talent though.

Yeah, Ikr Im fed up with UK Reality Shows having 'USA' Stuck onto the end of them.
The Americans will probley claim their version is better than ours and then be smug about it saying they have more talent.
Its all gona be ****ed up, Im really annoyed at this now just because I know how Americans will act when it airs there..
'OMG Our version is so coooler than yours'
'Your version sucks compared to ours'
'We made XF before you brits'
'Simon is on our version and not yours'
'We have more talent'
That will be all well hear from Americans, Btw sorry to any Americans on TiBB Who read this.. im not trying to offend you im just talking about some Americans online who already act smug about most USA Reality shows when its compared to ours.

The XFUSA auditions will most likely take place earlier in the year though so he could do the USA auditions, then the UK auditions and fly inbetween both for the live shows.

So X Factor USA is 100% confirmed, then?

Yes - he very publicly signed on the dotted line today.
Well he's not quitting - FOX have confirmed that he will continue to serve as a judge and executive producer on the UK version.
If there are any significant changes (which I doubt) I think what could happen is X Factor will move to spring/early summer (where BGT currently is but over a number of weeks) and BGT will move to the autumn where X Factor currently is using the same weekly auditions and daily live shows format.
X Factor auditions to be filmed in January whilst BGT auditions are filmed in May keeping Simon completely clear of USA commitments. The X Factor live shows could run weekly May-July with X Factor USA auditions filmed inbetween.
BGT could be scheduled so that Simon is over here judging during 'down time' on X Factor USA, ie the period between completion of judges homes filming and the live shows airing (in the UK thats about 4 weeks).
Dancing on Ice remains unaffected if its still going.
If its successful I'd guarantee Pop Idol comes back, probably not on ITV though.

No chance at all Pop Idol would return - don't know where you get that idea from. Even if ITV lost The X Factor I think we'd see a "brand new" take on the same idea (probably produced by Cowell but not starring him) rather than Idol return.
I saw this on the news this morning - not a big surprise, really. I'm curious as to how the public are going to react to Simon leaving Idol, and The X Factor coming here.

There's been a lot of buzz about it like who's gonna be the judges and such. I can see it taking off over there, American Idol is gonna suffer though as it's so built around Simon.

Yay!
I reckon he'll definitely take Cheryl over there, perhaps with Kara/Ellen ++ Randy.

Oh and the UK version is not 'in the ****'. Simon Cowell has too big an audience share in the UK to throw it away on a gamble on America's famously fickle TV industry.

I think the judges will be Simon, Paula, Cheryl and someone else. Maybe Perez Hilton? He said he had a big announcement to make today.
I think X Factor UK will be moved to January.

I'd prefer that, 'cos then the winner's album will be out early the following year and gives them time to prove themselves over the year.

I doubt the judges have been decided yet, it's only just been announced. We'll probably start hearing rumours in a few weeks though when Simon's company start contacting potential judges and hosts and such.

Simon said we'll know the judges 'very soon' and ITV have confirmed the USA one won't affect this years or next years X Factor.
I dont think American Idol will be on ITV2 for much longer, ITV are obviously going to opt for the better known UK brand and from 2012 I think we'll be seeing X Factor USA on ITV2 (but on a 3 month delay). I can't see them screening theirs and ours at the same time

If a Cowell-less singing show can exist along side X Factor then a UK company might think its worth giving a shot. It won't even reach half the heights X Factor has but it could be a bit successful.
IIRC there was a lot of talk a few years ago about Five or Sky taking the format. Sky would do it very well I think, they're currently doing really well with Got To Dance and a lot better than the BBC attempt at a dance show.
