Florence and the Machine have finally reached number one with their debut album Lungs.

The record, which was released in July, entered the charts at number two and has spent 28 consecutive weeks in the top 40.

Pixie Lott, Mumford & Sons and Lady GaGa also feature in this week's top ten with debut albums which they released in 2009. Meanwhile, Delphic, who came third in the BBC's Sound of 2010 poll, went straight in at number eight with their debut album Acolyte.

Martin Talbot, the managing director of the Official Charts Company, said: "It shows how much of the new talent which emerged last year is here for the long term and if Delphic's chart debut is anything to go by, 2010 promises to be equally exciting."

The highest new entry in this week's album chart is Vampire Weekend's second album Contra, which went in at number three. You Me At Six went straight in at number five with Hold Me Down.

Susan Boyle's debut I Dreamed A Dream slipped out of the top ten, finishing at number 11, while the Black Eyed Peas dropped six places to number 12. Michael Bublé also fell out of the top ten, moving down nine places to number 14.

The top ten albums in full:

1. (2) Florence and the Machine: 'Lungs'
2. (1) Paolo Nutini: 'Sunny Side Up'
3. (-) Vampire Weekend: 'Contra'
4. (3) Lady GaGa: 'The Fame Monster'

Florence and The Machine is her band, she is the only constant member. The line up chances for each track, for different shows ect. so I think she is classified as a solo artist. She does have a live band she uses all the time I think though.

Yay, it's a shame MJ kept her off #1 all those weeks back. I really thought Vampire Weekend had it in the bag though.
