Why bring racism into what is a political argument? Stephen brought the subject up - and I can honestly not think of a single event where they have done anything for Britain (or any other country for that matter) that didn't have a hefty amount of self interest involved. If there are any Americans on this forum perhaps they would enlighten me since they are very fond of throwing out this old chestnut with nothing to back it up.

After WW2 they lent Britain a lot of money, as I understand it.

But they certainly took their time in getting involved in both WW1 and WW2, so I'm guessing they money the lent us was 'guilt money' to some extent!

On the other hand, Germany's economic woes under the Weimar Republic and, by extension, the rise of the Hitler's government and WW2 was triggered by the boom and bust economy of the US and the Great Depression.
