Can't believe I didn't know he died. Read all his books and Angela's Ashes is a great film.

“When I look back on my childhood, I wonder how I survived at all,It was, of course, a miserable childhood: The happy childhood is hardly worth your while. Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood."

Ohhh really? God it makes Limerick look so glum, how far is Cork from Limerick?

A few hours drive only.

To clarify though : The big shots were done in Limerick. They used Cork for the cobbled street shots and all the indoor stuff. They used a house down the road from me because it was in such a state it basically looked like the ye olde times anyway. They paid for the alchy who lived in it to put him up in a B&B for the week when they done the shooting.

I believe the alchy moved straight back in afterwards, probably oblivious to the fact that his house was used in a major motion picture.

I know a few people who were extras in it.

They are right next to each other. About a 30 minute drive from city to city

Stan from Shameless? Never noticed either, but it's been years since I've seen it.

My claim to fame is getting thrown off set. We used to get as close up to it as we could when they were shooting out in the open and shout obscenities to try and halt it's production.

Yeah. His so good at the role it's actually unusual seeing him sober in interviews.

Yeah. His so good at the role it's actually unusual seeing him sober in interviews.

He's in a great little HBO film called Conspiracy with Kenneth Branagh and Colin Firth, among others. Deals with the Nazi bigwigs meeting and coming up with a "final solution" for the Jewish problem. Chilling stuff.
