View Full Version : Has TIBB changed since you first joined?

Yes, and it had also changed a lot from when I first started browsing to when I signed up.
Firewire
25-01-2010, 09:26 PM
Yeah.
It was really quite polite and innocent back then.
Change a lot.
Yes, we had good conversations and a load of harmless fun. Now its all 'Oh hai girlll, woop woop to the Britney!' or everyone is trying to be a rebel and saying stuff just to get a reaction.
Maybe I just grew up and got moody, but it certainly has changed, a lot of people have come and gone.

Back then, it was probably half the size of members or less (and it was only 2 years ago!) so it was more innocent back at the beginning of 2008.
Yes. The forum is now filled with younger, touchier members who treat threads like MSN convorsations and take any discussions or arguments beyond 'how waz ure day?' far too seriously.

Yes, definitly. Before it definitly felt more like a family or a little online community. now it feels like groups against each other. I used to come on here because I genunily wanted to have talk to people - but now, I suppose I come on here to chat about CBB, or mainly because I'm so utterly bored.

the only thing worse than the things that people point out about the site nowadays is the sad, select few who once posted like crazy, and now only come back from time to time to moan about how great this site used to be. Get off the ****ing high horse.

Yeah, that's why he'd get banned like 2 minutes after signing up every time. And, on the old forum only admins could see IP's, so sometimes he'd go a while without being banned. Although when VickyJ, Marcjswp and ukturtle were made mods he got 24hr posting banned every time, and then when an admin logged on they'd perma-ban the accounts.

It has obviously changed. There was only something like 2,000 members when I joined(I'm not even sure it was that many). There's hardly anyone still here from 2005,me,Linda,Greg and Aaron being the ones that come to mind. But I really don't think it's changed that much. It's always been young people,we just grew up and new young people came along. There's always been fights and arguments and there has always been cliques. But really it still has the same essence about it. Plenty of us have stuck around because of it havn't we?

yeah it has. It's a lot less interesting now. The current crop of members, the majority are just too young and immature to hold a proper conversation, you walk into a thread, you're guaranteed to see either an argument, aimless **** chatting or total ignorance. Then you have these ****ing messes who constantly complain of 'groups' forming, ect. who need to wake up and realise the more people on tibb, the more likely people are going to disagree and become closer with others. this time last year, there were still argument but they were at least interesting ones.

I think I got to know quite a few of the 'oldies' quite well.
It has, I don't know if for the better or worse everyone has their own opinion on that... for me, it's still the same just not with the same members if that makes any sense.
When I first joined I was a 'noob' like everyone else, getting to know everyone and talking etc. Then like there always has and always will be on this forum, groups obviously form because if you like certain members then you are obviously going to talk to them more, it's not about targetting people. Anyway I was in a sort of group with Hannah, Sia, Annie, Rocko, Fom etc... now I don't really speak to any of these. Then I became friendly with Mark, Hugo, Gary, Shaun, Billy, Rory etc... and I only really speak to Billy, Rory and Mark nowadays. Things change but the forum is how you make it.
I've always spoke to members like Arneldo, Lauren, Zee, Princess, Rory on a daily basis and hope to continually do so.
People change and people move on, you just gotta deal with it. I guarantee in a year the 'groups' that there are now, won't be entirely the same someone would have gone/argued/left. (I don't think groups are a bad thing before anyone says).
It's sad because I miss talking to alot of some of my old close friends on here but hey they're still about so it's good.

Mostly an analysis of me when I first joined:
When I first joined there were way more active members during the day, Everyone hated me, I was severely annoying, I didn't know what FTW meant for about 2 months, The forum was all blue, I didn't know how to use BBCode, I didn't know how to make gifs, I go red at the thought of my first thread, I bumped a few threads that were over a year old, I wished I had more stars under my username, I was 16.
Scarlett.

Yes. The forum is now filled with younger, touchier members who treat threads like MSN convorsations and take any discussions or arguments beyond 'how waz ure day?' far too seriously.

I have to admit Jess you have gotten better since September/October.
the only thing worse than the things that people point out about the site nowadays is the sad, select few who once posted like crazy, and now only come back from time to time to moan about how great this site used to be. Get off the ****ing high horse.
Yeah, that's a good point. Obviously I have my complaints, but I still like the site enough to post on it every day.
I don't like these people who come back to make one post telling us of how they have outgrew the forum and how Big Brother now sucks, or something of that nature.
yeah it has. It's a lot less interesting now. The current crop of members, the majority are just too young and immature to hold a proper conversation, you walk into a thread, you're guaranteed to see either an argument, aimless **** chatting or total ignorance. Sums it all up, really.
Almost all the sites problems can be traced back to people taking things too seriously.
To which you may say 'but you always argue, son!'.
To which I say 'yes, but who cares? It's the internet. If I argue with someone on Monday I get on with them come Tuesday. Piss off and stop being such a pussy. Forums are going to have arguments. Get a bucket of popcorn or shag off'.
Also we get maybe 1 decent member per every 10 new arrivals now.

I think what makes TiBB good is that it's constantly changing and there's always someone new who can bring something different to the forum.... since I joined in 2009 I've noticed a massive change in there being reduced amounts of hostility, back then I wouldn't dare post off season because it all appeared a bit out my depth (plus being 13 at the time :joker:). Think people can exaggerate the changes a bit, members come and go or get more or less active obviously but that's the same with all forums, and people also seem to have been predicting the death of the forum the last 2/3 years but its still ticking along
I think people change more than the forum does

It's definitely quieter though
I don't think it is but then I never notice when people say it's quieter because I rarely ever venture out of the Non Big Brother Chat section of the forum and to me that's as active as it has always been

I guess people don't notice it because it's a gradual transition but I feel as if it has quietened down, threads stay on the New Posts page for ages these days
I dunno I just find it varies day to day, sometimes it can be pretty quiet but sometimes it still seems pretty busy, can go away for an hour and there will be well over a page of new posts sometimes
..it probably hasn't changed as such and people don't generally change either, just perceptions of things..and like anything else, it will go in highs and lows, type thing...if it feels like 'same old' then after a length of time of being a member the enthusiasm won't always be there...and can sometimes be hard to summon up unless there is something different/new to get enthusiastic about...I don't know, maybe it hasn't changed enough/needs more 'new stuff' ..also when there are threads about 'your best time/year' etc, a lot of members who have been here a while will have had their 'high', the time period they've really enjoyed most for whatever reasons etc...and whenever there is a high, there will naturally be a 'low' to follow..and then we possibly think, oh TiBB has changed, but actually it hasn't...just your perception of it and then as is human nature, things tend to irritate more..those 'irritates' were probably always there, you just didn't see them...but instead you can stop seeing the good stuff about the forum...
..IT'S NOT YOU TiBB, IT'S ME.....lol.....

what was important to you a year ago may not be that important to you now.
you have the same conversations/arguments with different people.
when you first join, the old school will make them self's known!, good or bad:joker: so you are more vocal, but as time go's on, you mellow a bit or get a few ban's and things that got you boiling just make you simmer.

My lord has it changed in 5 and half years. The dominating groups/people have changed every 6 months, there have been massive arguments, loads of TiBB scandal and gossip, some great members, some horrible members, wurkits, bitter rivalries, some hilarious stories and moments and some very sad stuff too.
TiBB seems a lot tamer than it did back when I joined and when I started as a mod, and lot quieter.
It's only been my first year wish I would of seen this site longer ago

Not really, it's an opinion. He hasn't targeted anyone in particular and he just gave a general opinion on TIBB. I think that's fair enough really, as it's a thread that requires people to give general opinions. Also, the fact that now we're viewing ratios as personal attacks, shows how far pandering to a victim mentality has got this place.
Before I'm accused of defending my friends, I've never had a conversation with the fm we're talking about. He's a really interesting guy, and I enjoy reading what he has to say. I agree with some of his opinions, disagree with others, but we've never had a conversation - so please don't go down that route.

I think we're allowed to say we don't like people, and give reasons in a discussion. I'd be surprised if the poster concerned gave a list of names, and just said Salman - ******, Jesus - ******, etc, but saying he doesn't like things about what people post seems completely fair to me.

Nope I don't see everyone doing that :conf:
If members are so miserable and think the place is overcrowded with terrible members, then simply press the x button. You don't need to be full of self righteousness to enter thread and say that 80% of TiBB Members are awful, If it was someone like CharlieO saying that, people would all be jumping down his throat with negativity & that statement.

Perhaps I'm wrong then, but there are definitely people I think this place would be better without, and I know lots of people think this place would be better without me.
Telling people to log off because they don't like certain people is throwing the baby out with the bath water. I didn't really know CharlieO, but I know he used to say much worse things than 80% of fms are bad. He didn't wander into any random thread and say everyone is terrible, he said it in a thread about TIBB changing.
I must be in that 80% when you work out people that he's friends with etc, but so what? He's allowed an opinion, and I don't feel insulted.

Yeh true that's why I said mostly. Some people just don't have it in them to rub people the wrong way but those people are few. They are quality posters on this forum and I am certainly not a person to call people out because I'm a pretty poor one in comparison, but personally I love the posters that aren't afraid to get stuck in and open themselves up to being in someone's bad books.

My opinion is that if your on here and you don't dislike or have at least one person that annoys you, then you must be superhuman.
Its natural.
I've come to the conclusion that this place must be similar to the BB house in the fact that you won't get on with Everyone..
Most of them time in a bb house people that get on with everyone turn out to be fake and dont say whats really on their minds.
Not directing this at anyone in this forum but its a fact.
Well its my opinion. A lot of members dont really say what they think on here which isnt a good thing.
I knew when I joined here i would argue with people.. Although there are a couple people i thought just took it to far. But you then have mods telling me to put on ignore on members i dont like or can't stand, but i didnt sign up to put an ignore filter on anyone.
You just gotta deal with it that you just won't get on with some people.
If everyone played happy families on here what would be the point in this forum imo.

I actually think the posters that have people that like and dislike them are probably the best posters.
If someone is unanimously loved then there is something missing, mostly.
Only my opinion mind.
I can guarantee that every member on here will have people that like and dislike them, there is not one exception. It's life.

Ok I shall make it clearer, posters that have a ratio more toward the middle ground rather than having one or two disenfranchised people that don't like them.
Even if someone had 4 or 5 people who didn't like them I would still say they are universally liked.

I think it's dependent upon the member, lol.

:wavey:
.. And no, Tibb hadn't really changed that much since I joined in 2009... Just different people arguing, a different crowd of young uns etc.. And it's a bit quieter.
I think it's dependent upon the member, lol.
Yeh I guess.
But as a rule I would say if someone is a bit of a twat then not many people like them and those that nearly all people like tow the line and don't get into arguments for fear of someone not liking them. That's a generalisation by the way I'm not meaning 100% of people are this/that.
This is all my opinion but I would say the quality posters are those that are like anywhere from 60-40 to 80-20 like/dislike by regular posters.
Obviously quality members would be those that never create tension, keep controversial opinions to themselves etc

Oh thanks, reece! My god. That was ages ago .
Saying the ratio of bad members to good members is 80:20 is an insult
If you're in the 80%, sure.
It's probably more 60:40 but whatever. I didn't mean to cut onions around you or for it to be taken as an exact science.
"There, there", basically.
