Porn/lads mags plastered all over shops, easy access to porn on the internet, typical 'hot girls with no clothes on' in music videos and the like, etc...

What are your opinions on it?

Is it affecting children and our society as a whole? Should we be cutting back and having more censors and rules in place to stop it?

No need for censorship really.

Except possibly on very graphic images/videos.

Sex is natural...

Some people argue that it's sexualised too much, to the point in which it's not real, that young people are being 'brainwashed' into believing that they must look/act like certain celebrities, and that it probably adds to the increase of underage sex.

I don't really care myself, though. Don't see why anything should be done about it. Thought I'd spark up a debate nevertheless.

Sex is natural, yes, but we live in an era where it's just been used as some kind of commodity or advertising tool, with the actual real, intimate beauty of the act being lessened.

I guess it ruins expectations for ugly people and/or virgins

Natural doesn't mean it has to be in your face all the time. It spoils it, takes the mystery out of it. Too much of something, whatever it is, just becomes boring! Kids just think it is cool to talk about it all the time - they think it makes them all grown up. So they will always say they want more of it!

That's quite a generalising comment, though.

No, I disagree with censors completely. If you do not like something do not watch it and if you don't want kids to see it don't let them watch it either. Simples.

Nevertheless - usually true! Also those that talk about it most, are usually getting it least! Those getting it, don't need to talk about it all the time!

On the matter of influence, blaming the media is just a scapegoat for poor sex education and knowledge of it. Teens have had sex before the media came along the best that could be done is to teach them how to use contraception properly.

Complete parental control is an impossibility in today's age. When our parents were young it was simply a case of switching off the tv or sending them to bed, but today sex sells in every area of the media and can be seen everywhere and at anytime. Our culture embraces vice and promotes it rigorously, on anything from bus advertisements to magazines... you name it and there's sex involved, even if its just on a subliminal level.

What kid doesnt enjoy walking into the Sweet Shop and seeing a pair of tits on the Magazine Rack?

Its great lol
I walked in one day and Sophie was on the cover of Nuts :D

Tbh theres nothing wrong with it, I love how cool the UK is with stuff like this where as I heard in USA Papers its crazy to show a girls tits :joker:

But to us its normal.

Its not as if the kid isnt going to see a pair of tits on the internet or somthing.

I was in the shop ages ago after school and I was trying to get served but this wanker was taking forever, but anyway this kid walked in with his mum and he was about 8 and his mum was looking a Cards or somthing in the back, and the little dude had an ice cream cone and it was melting on his fingers.
So he opened the DS and drew over the girls nipples with Ice Cream lol
His mum walked back so embarressed :joker:

Just a little story I thought I would share.

Fair point, but have you not thought that children are usually naturally curious about the world and the things in it, and so will talk about it more?

Once thirteen, I really don't believe anyone talks about sex to look 'cool'.

I just think it's sad that after all the decades of struggles that women have endured to be accepted as equals in all areas of life, they are still treated as nothing more than sex objects. I can't see there ever being true equality whilst we still exploit and degrade women.

No problem with it aslong as noones being exploited in the process, children need more education on sex (real life sex, not porn sex) and relationships though

I'm of the opinion that sex is not a bad thing. However it is used as a cheap advertising tool. In the future it will be less subtle and I imagine a typical advert on TV will be just a girl sitting fully naked on the floor with her legs spread and a bottle in between them, the caption simple reading 'Drink Coke'.

This argument crops up time and time again and it is utter rubbish.....

If a man murders a man is the whole male race degraded. No of course not.

Nature repeat nature dictates that both male and female are sexually desirable.....Normal.......Not degrading. Perfectly Normal......

Women who are involved in the sex industry do not degrade the entire female population........They may degrade themselves on a personal basis but only that.......

Censorship never works......Censorship generates stronger desires to find out what is being hidden and as a consequence more people break the censorship barrier........

In Britain that has quite strict censorship rules.R18 for example not allowed on UK TV by UK broadcasters.......Yet we have the highest rate of abortion etc in this country compared to Europe that does allow R18 and indeeed easily available video'e in newsagents and yet their kids are not any more afected than kids here. In fact with less unwanted pregnancy and less abortion they seem to be far better balanced than kids from a country fixated with censorship.......

There's too many censors as it is. Parents should control their children and monitor what they're able to see. That's all part of parenting. The world shouldn't change to make their jobs easier, denying adults the simple pleasures of what we're accustomed to. Let Mohammed go to the mountain.
