The opening Big Brother 2009 launch episode, which aired on Channel 4 on 4 June, attracted 4.8 million viewers, with a 22% viewing share. A further 239,000 watched it on Channel4+1. The launch was 400,000 viewers less than BB9's Launch Night.

The final of Big Brother 2009 had the lowest-ever closing night audience of any Big Brother series. The first part averaged 2.6 million viewers. An additional 170,000 watched on Channel 4+1. The second instalment of the final started at 10pm was watched by an average of 2.7 million viewers which peaked at 3.1 million viewers when Sophie Reade was announced as the winner.

This is appalling ratings considering BB7 had a series average of 4.7 million viewers. On the launch night, the programme obtained a peak audience of 7.7 million viewers and the final obtained a peak audience of 8.2 million viewers.
AND
BB5 had an average of 5.1 million viewers, and BB3 had an average of 5.8 million viewers in this series and it's final drew in 10 million viewers.
