DAVINA'S STAB IN THE MAK
POLLY'S VERDICT
Polly Hudson
IN the end, it could only have been Anthony.
Even I was rooting for him because, as a Big Brother purist, I just didn't think it was right that someone who wasn't there at the start could win.
OK, he's Mr Average but he wanted it so badly - and it was sweet that the first thing out of his mouth was a jubilant message to his grandma.
Don't know what that does to his man points score though.
But the night had soured for me when Makosi left the house. Yes, I wanted her to win, but that aside, the booing was totally uncomfortable and unnecessary - and Davina did nothing to stop it.
When Kinga left to sounds of disapproval Davina whispered something comforting and squeezed her hand. Makosi got nothing.
Weeks ago when Davina interviewed Saskia - who had been threatening, racist and downright nasty - she laughed with her and jokingly reprimanded her with a wagging finger.
Yet she treated Makosi - whose worst crime was to tell a few porkies - as if she'd committed murder.
As the mob bayed "Off! Off! Off!" Davina showed none of her trademark warmth, abandoned her to their mercy and shook her head, saying: "I can't believe you're showing no remorse."
What she seemed to have forgotten was that as second runner-up, and the last woman in the house, many people had voted for Makosi and we wanted a few of her good points, deeds and fun times talked about rather than just focusing on the negative.
Makosi made Big Brother in the first two weeks but she got no recognition for it - and that's just plain wrong.

yeah a lot of truth in that, i didnt really hate makowsi but i didnt love her either. How she was treated was disgusting, and davina was really harsh (i would have much rather seen craigs interview like that but not as badas he was a total prat) although makowsi did land her self in it a few times.

Makosi got treated badly by the crowd. So what? She must have known how she looked to the public. I have no sympathy towards her, and don't really think that Davina's behaviour was that bad.
Unprofessional perhaps, but understandable.

That article is so full of inaccuracies, it's pointless taking it apart piece by piece to list them all. But perhaps the most glaring is the comment about Saskia. Any half-decent reporter would've made a few checks into the ethnic origins of her family, and realised how ludicrous that statement really is.
Saskia did have some rather suspect views about immigrants.

Was that part of her vt? I must have seen it, but I honestly can't remember it. If she did indeed say something along those lines, then I wouldn't dream of defending her stance. But I don't know what that actually was, so I can't comment. It's worth noting though that Derek had very extreme views on that particular issue.
Yes Derek did as well.
Saskia's comments were made during her video audition, she said that everyone who came to this country wanted to bomb us or call us names.
Amongst other things, I should add!

That has FA to do with it. Unfortunately I have come across people who are ashamed of their (ethnic origins). She is 1/4 Sri Lankan not 1/4 black, ( like she said in her eviction interview.) that's the difference.
And people who say '....I'm not racist but....' (like Saskia in her audition video) really are an annoyance.
Saying this though, I do not think she is racist. Ignorant (really ignorant) maybe but not racist......
The above reporter is from The Daily Mirror which I happen to think is a s**t rag, but she is a reporter none the less. She also isn't the only reporter, celebrity to someone high profile who commented on Devina's behaviour or the crowd, so she isn't in the minority.
By the way, this interview has already been posted somewhere else on the forum. And in the BB6 Press Coverage Forum.

It has everything to do with it. An ethnic minority does not automatically equal 'black'. If you're going to quote my post, at least have a valid reason for doing so in the first place.
Negating your own insinuation hardly strenghthens your argument, either.

just because someone as relatives who are black/from an ethnic minority does not so ever mean they cant be racists. I mean when davina questioned her about it, saskia said 'im not racists my cousins sri lankan so i cant be racist. Oh that clears that up then
I personaly found some of dereks comments out of order. The BNP one might have been funny to some but how would you feel if something like that was directed at you like it was at science when he was showed it. Oh yes thats hilarious derek wants to join a party who want to send me from the country I was born in to somewhere ive never been before just because im black how funny. He also said something about himself being a golly in his interview (as in them little dolls which were called golly **** at one point, which are black with black curly hair). It might not offend him but again that could offend some.
It was Saskia herself who said that she was "1/4 black" in her eviction interview.

No, it doesn't. But it makes it quite a bit harder to believe, especially when it's just being dreamt up by a tabloid hack to fabricate a negative character trait to pin on someone they want to condemn.
Extract from Wikipedia entry about Derek:
He gained some notoriety as the only black member of the Monday Club, which supported repatriation of immigrants and the apartheid regime in South Africa. Fellow members of the Monday Club nicknamed him "Golly", for gollywog, a nickname Laud continues to use.

Your comment about 'ethnic minority does not automatically equal 'black'. is absolutely true. However, I am slightly confused why you have come to the conclusion that I don't agree or understand this? My main gripe with your post was this: 'But perhaps the most glaring is the comment about Saskia. Any half-decent reporter would've made a few checks into the ethnic origins of her family, and realised how ludicrous that statement really is'
I interpreted (forgive me if I am wrong) that to mean, that just because she is part Sri Lankan then obviously she can't be racist. Which is complete rubbish, as per my reasons above and what 'BringScienceback' has put in the first part of her post above.
I wait with bated (yawn) breath on 'your I'm always right no matter what last word'

Yeah, very much so. That's why they stopped using it as a trademark. Derek is a very strange man. Why he feels that way, I just don't understand. He could've done so much good, both from the positions he's held during his career, and while he was in the house, too.

If you'd read the posts between your knee-jerk reaction and your most recent post, you'd already know the answer to your own questions here.
How tiresome. You quote my post, basically to let me know that you haven't got a point? You just like an argument, and as soon as you lose, you trot out the trusty 'last word' card. Oh dear.

Not knee jerk in the slightest, just a fair comment. Which I think has a point. You are the only one who can't see this. You obviously do not see the holes in your argument.
If you mean what I have written here 'She is 1/4 Sri Lankan not 1/4 black, ( like she said in her eviction interview.) that's the difference' Then I do think you have interpreted this incorrectly. Maybe I have interpreted yours incorrectly I don't know, but 'bringbackscience' seems to have interpreted the same way.
And the last word comment, if you had a sense of humour you would know this was written tongue in cheek.
Oh and I haven't trotted away. I didn't know this was a contest where there needs to be a winner. I will admit when I am wrong. I am not provoking an argument (pot..kettle black), seems to me you would win that contest hands down as I think it is part of your repertoire.
Charlotte (or whatever your name is), you do have this way of being quite obnoxious and patronising, which is only surpassed by the aptly named 'selfinflicted' I find it quite admirable and amusing that you feel this is the norm (my opinion) Kudos. Hats off, you have won in that respect.
I wait in anticipation (really) for your brilliant 'winning' response. I will try not to fall asleep.
PS I love you and the fact that you don't give a s**t. I never knew I could fall quite so hard.:love:

I'm not arguing, you are. When you quote someone's post with the opening gambit you used at the top of this thread, you're hardly suggesting reasoned comment. It's actually rather offensive.
I have an excellent sense of humour. I'm a Scouser, so it's in the blood. You use the term quite prolifically, and in many instances I would suggest there's little evidence that it's 'tongue in cheek'. Rather it's patronising and intended to confuse your fellow member/s into staying quiet.
Where you've pulled the Maxwell connection from, I've no idea. I'm afraid you've misread my post. Oh dear. You really don't like people that won't be brow-beaten, do you? That seems to be part of your repertoire.
You have this rather bizarre desire to pin your own character traits onto others, don't you? I resent your likening me to a bigot in the strongest possible terms. Something worth taking on board. As far as what I'd consider to be 'the norm' is concerned, I've moderated and administrated numerous forums for several years, and believe me, you're sorely mistaken. Nothing new there though, I suppose. And don't flatter yourself, you're hardly a challenge.
You make a lot of assumptions. I'd suggest gambling would be a poor career move.

A bigot?!! Maxwell? When did I insinuate this?!! However, I actually did Lol. I love it. Just the response I expected. Don't think I really care however, that you have monitored numerous other forums. You do have this habit of mentioning something you have done in the past. I.E. Its a forum we don't need to know little personal details about each other. Alot of things written on here are written tongue in cheek and should be taken so. I know I do. I distinctly remember having a discussion with AndyJK a while back but we did both realise in the end that it is just a forum. We don't know each other personally.

You seem very intelligent and kudos to you for that. I also love the fact that you try and twist everything around to make me look stupid. This I think deserves some kind of medal.
Thank you Charlotte you have made my day. God bless you.

I did, you are, and that's open to interpretation. My post was brief in comparison. Again, you're mistaken. I made no connection between the word 'bigot' and Maxwell. Perhaps a re-read is warranted here?
Past, present and future. If it's worth doing at all, then it's worth doing well. That's a basic of conversation, after all. And no, English Literature & Cultural History / History (Joint Honours) actually.
Your point? That sounds naggingly familiar. Nothing I say is pointless, as there'd be little point saying it in the first place, otherwise. I find a little logic helps. Perhaps you'd like to try it yourself sometime? How very ... paradoxical.

Any half-decent reporter would've made a few checks into the ethnic origins of her family, and realised how ludicrous that statement really is.
I'm a newbie so I am just looking through a few posts.
This one was a lively, interesting and quite amusing discussion between Opl? and Charlottesometimes! I wasn't a Makosi supporter but I tend to agree with part of the article regarding the lack of support for Makosi from Davina. However, at the end of the day it is a tabloid, and any normal person wouldn't take any notice of such trash. It's all over and done with now anyway!
I did note though Charlottesometimes that you didn't explain why you had written:
'But perhaps the most glaring is the comment about Saskia. Any half-decent reporter would've made a few checks into the ethnic origins of her family, and realised how ludicrous that statement really is'
I think that was Opl's and Scienceisback ( I think that's the name!) argument/opinion? They seem to think you wrote that because you think that just because you are of ethnic origin or a descendent, that doesn't make you racist? I tend to agree with them in that respect, being of ethnic origin has nothing to do with you being racist or not it's down to that person. It's the way I have interpreted it anyway, especially when you say that statement is ludicrous. If I am wrong please accept my apologies!
Anyway back to read through some other posts! Interesting forum!

It doesn't need any further explanation. The idea being that, before you take the ramblings of a journalist seeking only to pad out a feeble article with as much manufactured drivel as possible as factual, you instead research the validity of her baseless accusations.
Had you read the thread as thoroughly as you suggest, there wouldn't be any need to ask that question in the first place. Nothing can 'make you racist', it's not contagious. It's an abhorrent manifestation of an ignorant, addled mind.
The entire population of the world is 'of ethnic origin'.
Then you interpreted it incorrectly.
Your apology is indeed accepted.

Erm okay if you say so. Cheers for the reply. That particular paragraph of your first post was quite ambiguous though (in my eyes) so could be interpreted in a different way, which we clearly did. I think it was asked by Opl if it was interpreted incorrectly but you didn't respond so I thought I would ask!
You are also clearly more knowledgable than me regarding the meaning of ethinc origin, as your reponse clearly suggests how you may look down on upon those who may not be as knowledgable. However, things written down sometimes may be taken the wrong way than if you were to say it face to face. So I won't go down that road of getting into a big discussion about it.
I respect your opinon and that of the rest on here who have responded to this thread and I do lean towards them , so lets leave it at that! I don't want to step on any toes as I a new.

There is no 'we' - once again, read the thread properly, and then perhaps it will finally sink in. This is a forum, not a glee club.
You quoted my post, erroneously. Get over yourself.
It's wise not to, when you've got nothing even vaguely resembling a valid point.
Lean whatever way you will, even though you've massively misinterpreted the thread once again, but please don't ever presume that blasé platitudes will deter me from correcting your poor judgement and misguided assumptions.
It's a little late for that now, don't you think? Using that copy of Julius Caesar as a mousemat was, perhaps, a bad move on your part.

It's not the worst thing a newbie's been put through, I'm sure TOM can handle it. Otherwise he may have a bit of a rough time here.

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
Handful of Senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'
And you tell me, over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe, we're on the eve of destruction?

Hmm is this that 'Eve Of Destruction' song? By somebody McGuire? Yep it's a harsh, harsh world.
Not really into folk...

Yeah, Barry Mc.Guire released it.
Good job it's not a folk song then, huh?

Folk-rock whatever. Most songs with a harmonica in it sound like folk to me:bigsmile: Bob Dylan springs to mind.
