FA Statement

Friday, 05 February, 2010

England Manager Fabio Capello today issued the following statement:
“After much thought, I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry.

“As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad.

“What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice.

“John Terry was notified first.

“When I chose John Terry as captain, I also selected a vice-captain and also named a third choice. There is no reason to change this decision.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank The FA, particularly Lord David Triesman and Ian Watmore for allowing me to make this decision in my own time and in the best interest of the team.”

My opinion - don't mix off field issues with on field issues. Wrong decision.

The right decision imo.

Just because he's a good footballer, he needs to learn that the Captaincy is a role of responsibilty and he's representing the country, not just about the football at all, kids look up to him. It's not like he's been dropped from the team is it?

Yes and he said he would rather not play than be anywhere near Terry.

Right decision... What JT does in his private life is his own business but he crossed the line and betrayed his friend by sleeping with his girlfriend and the trust of his wife so has himself to blame. Capello doesn't want any distractions and if he was kept on then how would the players react to him in captaincy with all this tension?.

Ha ha. I'm glad. Can't stand the ugly, jumped up nobody. His claim to fame? He kicks a ball round a field and ***** women on the side. What an absolute disgrace. I hope he is axed from the England team, too.

I'm happy about Rio being a Utd fan and all but he's hardly played this season and when he has out of form, he needs to hurry up back soon after his stupid and silly suspension:rolleyes:.

Can't say I see the problem - the role of captaincy is a bit overrated in my opinion. The national team, anyway. They don't unite very often, and in the end it's just a bit of morale-boosting and team-building anyway.

He did wrong and it was right to remove this from him.

does he still get to play, not as a captain?

2 ridiculous decisions. Realistically with him as captain we had a slight chance of making it fairly far (quarters at least) ... without him as captain we're going to be lucky to make it past the second round.

I really don't see how his personal life has anything to do with him being captain.

And Ferdinand is a crap player too. He peaked when he joined United in 2002.

I second this. Proves how much stupid power the media has really.
