It always makes me sad when I hear a celeb say that they never read books. Tim Henman and comedy Dave are 2 that spring to mind.

Please tell me that you read books regularly..

there are many translations, commentaries and study Bibles. It really is 66 books in one so you get value as well as guidance.

People who say they never read usually don't because they think it will make them seem crazy and more fun. But really most people think they seem dull and uncultured :/

They say turn to page 66. If you like what is on that page then you will like that book. If you dont then that book is not for you.

i cant understand people who dont read at all i love nothing more than curling up with a good book if that makes me geeky or whatever for admiting it then fine i can read a good book in a couple of days lucky for me my daughter is also a bit of a book worm i saved all my books from being a kid (3 huge boxes of enid blyton) that i now share with her
sadly i think a lot of it with those who dont read is that they'd rather spend hours on end playing computer games than reading

I had to read books when I did my A levels, ESPECIALLY for A level English Literature. :D

But since I passed my A levels I can seriously say I have never read a FICTION book from front to back since. Just not interested in fiction, although I read non fiction. :)

I have a few books I am halfway through, I just don't have time to sit down with a book. I have a lot of books to do with my course that I read a lot. I am always reading at some point really... most of my job is just reading stuff.

Haven't read much in the way of fiction in the last 4 years - due to studying and having to read for research purposes!
But now I am looking forward to having a good read - and actually relaxing and enjoying it!

I wonder if internet use will have a big effect on reading, ie we spend all day looking and reading off the pc that our usage of printed matter declines from sheer fatigue.

I think it has an effect on reading insofar as a lot of people have short attention spans or go refresh crazy. Plenty of times I have planned to read a book at say, 12 at night, and next thing I know I'm still switching tabs at 2 in the morning.

I guess in this age of information technology it is possible to gain wisdom and knowledge without the need to ever pick up a book, but the biggest loss in never reading is the exercise of your mind, spirit and imagination through the act of reading.

Watching a film adaptation of a book may give you the story, but the reading of it brings another dimension since it is enacted within your mind and somehow has a more profound and lasting impact on the psyche. The way an idea is expressed in literature and poetry can often be a revelation, offering a new way of looking at something.
