I'm an optimist, believe it or not. A very big one at that. Just so happens that a lot of really, really stupid human beings prowl this place.

What sort of battered logic is that?

Are optimists down in the dumps when good stuff happens?

Pessimism and optimism have nothing to do with mood, and everything to do with world view. I know some very happy pessimists and a few optimists who are on the edge of a nervous collapse.

I am a realist. I do like to look at both the pessimistic view point and optimistic view points but I usually balance the points with the outcome of a realist point of view.

I'm a pessimist by nature, I don't know it's just the way I think.

Stu

Come to think of it I'm what you would call a hopeless optimist. I believe in good people and the capacity for humans to do good things - and choose to focus on this - but I still have to maintain the fact that in general people are a bad thing.

Optimist - something turns out good - "yeah"
Optimist - something turns out bad - "**** my life"
Pessimist - something turns out good - "Woohoo"
Pessimist - something turns out bad - "ohh that alright, i expected it"

I cant, because that would involve typecasting two trails of thought and every single person who holds those trails of thought. And that type of generalisation is for idiots.

Even if I were to stoop to your level of rash cognitive judgements you would still be wrong. An optimist is not likely to say '**** my life' if something bad happens, nor is a pessimist more likely to actually rejoice if something good were to happen.

An optimist would think about the good points in a bad situation, not give up hope. A pessimist would always think about the bad points in a good situation.

I'm not really either, I try to see both the good points and the bad points about different situations and decide on how I think it'll turn out when I've figured them all out.

No it's not. It's an entirely subjective issue relating to the person. I'm an optimist and I am always delighted when something great happens. More so than a lot of pessimists, who would look at the bad side of a good thing.

Brush up on terminology, people.

And yeah, I am also a firm believer in being a dreamer. Anything to beat the mundanity of reality!

I'd actually say I'm an optimist, I always look for the good in situations and in people, although that usually comes back to bite me in the ass, I still try and keep the faith that things will turn out alright in the end. It means you get let down by people a lot, because there are a lot of assholes out there but hey ho!

And I'm a total day dreamer.

Your glass is half full with Cara as started texting together - by Monday do you expect good and going movie together next week (looking positively/optimistically) or from half full - she not want a date - looking negatively/pessamistic..............only giving an example

Optimistic. I believe that there is nothing on Earth that can make me stop what I want to achieve. I somehow believe the Human race is nice even though it's not but I don't care. I'm just happy and I will do everything to keep the feeling.
