The sun may be about to set on the popular Channel 4 reality show for the last time thanks to the global recession.

Shipwrecked became an instant hit with young fans when it was launched in 2000.

It had sun, sea, sand and sex and an eye-popping cast of boobiful beach bombshells and toned hunks in trunks.

But viewers now face the prospect of nursing their Sunday morning hangover without eye candy like Stacey Mason, 21, from Manchester, who arrives on the island this week.

Revealing the latest doom and gloom to Daily Star Sunday readers, our source on the hit show said: “Although Shipwrecked is still incredibly popular, no programme is safe at the moment.

“Even though the contestants don’t get luxuries it costs a lot of money to film for three months in the Pacific islands.

“Although no final decision has been made yet, the likelihood is that the show will either be axed or, at the very least, rested for one year.

“Cuts are being made across the board and there are certainly other programmes that are both easier and cheaper to make that could fill Shipwrecked’s Sunday afternoon slot.”

T4’s Shipwrecked is credited with launching the craze for reality TV in Britain. Its first series in 2000 opened the door for Big Brother later that year.

The show sees two tribes, The Sharks and The Tigers, battling it out and has helped launch the careers of Jade Goody’s ex Jeff Brazier, 29, and Daily Star Sunday favourite Naomi Millbank-Smith, 23.

It was nominated for a National Television Award in 2007 but lost out to the X Factor.

Silly decision. What the he'll have channel 4 been doing recently. This is nearly as silly as how clean is your house! I loved a bit of Kim and aggie on a Tuesday evening :L
