Activision has announced that a new developer will be working on the Call Of Duty series.

As well as a Treyarch-developed title for this year, Sledgehammer Games will "extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre" for 2011, according to Kotaku.

The publisher will form a "dedicated business unit that will bring together its various new brand initiatives with focused, dedicated resources around the world".

The announcement follows news that two key members of staff were ejected from Infinity Ward yesterday.

It is unclear whether Infinity Ward will continue as the main developer of the Call Of Duty series.

I doubt Activision would hand it over to anyone else given Infinity Ward's greatness. But then again, Activision are really, really dumb.

**** Treyarch and their dismal attempt at bringing Modern Warfare to a WWII setting.

I think that was the last one to focus more on the campaign than the multiplayer.
