View Full Version : If you're suddenly going to take the moral high ground ...
at least be consistent.
Its no good suddenly locking a thread because "no jokes should be made about this" when they've been going on for months.

 there has been a lot worse.
 there has been a lot worse.
I just find it daft that a thread gets locked when pretty much nothing was said ... when people have joked much more strongly and those threads get to stay open
I am assuming Should ugly people be allowed to breed? passed the TiBB Towers quality filter for a fine good debate.

I was just thinking that, that thread is much more offensive tbh because it is hard to classify what is ugly and what isn't.
The stuff in the closed thread was just part of an ongoing joke.
What's next, censoring of the words Josef and Fritzl? :bored:

most likely.

I swear these days the mods have some kind of lottery machine and they randomly pick out a thread to lock every now and again
Its more erratic than Kerry Katona's appointments with her psychiatrist.

The smokers thread was highly insulting too. In fact Kareeza's threads seem purpose built to cause offence. Not that I want them closed. But it's going back to what Tom said about consistency. If your going to close his thread on some moral highground then clear up the other ones too. Otherwise let people have their jokes. You don't need to worry about the sites reputation looking bad - because it's shocking anyway. I doubt would be members are going to suddenly turn away because of a Josef Fritzl thread, and not oh say the illiterate twelve year olds you happily let stalk your forum.

I knew this topic would be started the moment I closed that thread. But I don't need to defend the decision to close it because the reasons are self-evident. A lot of people would find making jokes about that case in very bad taste, and off-putting to the forum

That's a stupid thread, to be honest, but not nearly as offensive.

In your opinion, of course.
You seem to be in the minority.
Over the top jokes about serial racists can't really cause offence due to the over the top nature. Kareeza's threads however are incredibly insulting to any rational human being.
Seriously dude, if any member wants to join TiBB, Fritzl threads are going to be the least of their worries.

Why isn't every other Fritzl thread stopped then? The entire reason for that thread was part of the on going joke- something EVERYONE on TiBB is aware of. This place is becoming too PC.
And if you think thats offensive, maybe you ought to get a tighter grip on the forum.

Because James personally does not find them funny. Which is perfectly fair.
What's not fair is threads with no brutal arguments getting closed based entirely on his sense of humor.
I don't find it funny = I close it.
Oh well. Joys of being an admin.

I'm against joke threads being closed completely, it doesn't really make sense when threads that are made for arguments are left untouched. Which one is more likely to put off potential members?
Some people do have a dark sense of humour, me included. Nobody really likes Josef Frtizl, people are just taking the p*ss out of a sick bastard it's not offensive, howver some of the stuff that the members seriously sh*t out of their mouths is much worse. Take Banarama's posts from the thread about the Soldier being sent to prison. He basically stated that any soldier with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a coward and that they should be shot for it which is a whole lot more offensive then Josef Fritzl jokes yet even when I complained (I don't like complaining about opinions but that really was sickening or and ignorant and I don't even get offended easily) nothing was actually done about it.
Joke threads are a lot more welcoming then ignorance and intolerence.

See...people thinking they know it all.
You dont know what people are punished for, just assume that because they dont whinge on about it, nothing has been done.
In actual fact, the user in question recieved an infraction for that.

No problem. Was probably a little sharp with you there...
Just sick of people complaining that nothing is done about it when other members do something wrong, when they dont actually know...seems to have become the norm to make a thread moaning about it if you get an infraction these days, and anyone who doesnt do that...gets away with everything in everyones eyes...

I can see your point, I remember back in the old forum when you used to be able to see warnings under the avatar so you always knew if the problem was dealt with, it would save a lot of bother if you could see the number of infractions underneath the avatar in a similar fashion really although it's probably not possible.

As a mod on another forum what I could suggest, mod to mod, that you do what we do.
We have a thread that is kept locked, and when someone is suspended or banned, it is unlocked by the actioning mod, who then briefly explains why a user is suspended or banned and the thread re-locked.
This allows a fair degree of transparency. Also when closing a thread we always post the reason why a thread is locked.

To be quite honest, I think the only thing that's going to be driving people away from this forum is the endless amount of threads that are being closed because of differences in sense of humours, stopping any potential discussions and debates. A forum is made through arguments and debates, if there weren't any, it'd suck, big time. And really, when you ought to be trying to keep this place alive after BB11, you seem to be going the wrong way about it, if you ask me.

In all honestly, I think people should just respect the admins decisions. If you dont like they way the site is run, simply dont visit it. James has obviously been an admin on this site for some time and is aware how to moderate a forum efficiently. If anything its the numerous threads moaning like little bitches that a thread has been locked. It a thread guys, get over it. James does a great job and its unfair how everyone is always getting on at him. He closes threads in the best interest of all members, those who rebel againts it obvioulsy just want some drama in their cyber life lol.
All in all, Good Decision James.

Stu, why always the snide comedic remark? I feel its unfair to how people blame James when he makes a decision. Just respect it. "Does that mean I have my cock up his hole". Come on thats just pathetic. Its a shame really Stuart, this whole comedy act just seems like a defence mechanism to the shy insecure person you really are. But hey, who am to judge?
Ahh it's a shame. A shame.

To answer your question though, so I am not rude, is no I havent dyed my hair red, nor am I planning to. I do like Paramore but I dont want to be Hayley Willaims. Just so we are clear.

The idea that we shouldn't be able to criticise or offer suggestions to the mods is idiotic. Jack made a good point about excluding debate and interesting topics due to differences in humour. Tibb's gonna need all the help it can get to survive after BB and like Jack says closing topics will only drive people away. It's a fair criticism, we're allowed to criticise and offer up suggestions. If I ever became a mod I would encourage it really since constructive criticism's a good thing in the long run.
