...it might be getting re-released

James Cameron has revealed that his record-breaking blockbuster Avatar may get a summer re-release in cinemas.

Asked about a potential 3D Blu-ray home release for the picture, the director told USA Today that it could in fact return to 3D screens with additional footage once Alice In Wonderland's theatrical run is over.

He said: "We're not officially announcing [the Blu-ray] right now but I'm hoping for fall. The wildcard is that we might be re-releasing the movie this fall. It's kind of gotten stomped out because of Alice in Wonderland.

"The word we're getting back from exhibitors is we probably left a couple of hundred million dollars on the table as a result. The question is [whether] the appetite [is] still going to be there after the summer glut of movies. We're going to assess that. We're talking about maybe adding in additional footage and doing something creative."

Cameron also addressed plans to release a 3D version of Titanic in 2012, 15 years after the romantic drama's initial cinema bow and on the 100-year anniversary of the doomed ship sailing from Southampton.

Oh sweet suffering Jesus, must we go through all of that again? And then we have Titanic to look forward to? Do us all a favour Cameron and get back into that submersible of yours and film some more sunken ships and fish.

Everything about it was cheesy and over-dramatic. The only thing I liked was the CGI. It was beautiful, but as far as the story goes. Rubbish!

The film could have been much shorter than it was. 20 minutes spent flying on dragons and that was just in one scene, lol...

It's worth seeing just for the spectacle and you really accept the new enviroment and actually become immersed in it, but after 20 mins I was like, "well, what else have you got?". The answer is nothing. All flash, no bang.

How obvious was it, when they eventually decided to tell us why on earth they've gone there in the first place? Instead of working it out for ourselves gradually, it was like BAM! Now we know. I hate when films do that. So lazy.

Titanic and Avatar are Camerons biggest commercial hits. Ridiculous when you consider that this is the guy who made, Aliens, Terminator 1 and 2 and the Abyss.

Is this supposed to be an insult? Because it seems to me that all you've done is point out that Cameron is bloody good at his job

In all seriousness though, The Abyss is probably my favourite of his films. Aliens and T2 not far behind. The guy has an undeniably outstanding CV. It wouldn't surprise me if Avatar's sequel had an even higher budget than the original. That says alot - no other director on the planet would have such leniency.

No, I'm saying that all the films I mentioned are far superior to Titanic and Avatar, that's all.

Of course it's my opinion. Do I need to point out every ****ing time in my posts that it's my opinion. Nice one Holmes. Many other people would agree with me though. Films aren't just about visuals, you know. Take that away and what are we left with? Some transparent preachy film about US foreign policy. How original! Yaaawn.

Yep, for visual effects, art direction and cinematography which it was always going to get. Did it get Best Film? Nope. Quite a few crap films have made alot of money - it means absolutely nothing.

I liked Avatar but it should just release on DVD in the summer or are they going to wait for a Christmas dvd/blu ray release to earn more cash from it?
