Some people call black people "coloured" people but I rather just say black or white or halfcast.

I think you just answered your own question .

It's convinient. I don't want to carry around a Dulux colour chart with me when I'm going abroad.

Or suppose halfcast could sound wrong so possibly tanned or whatever.

Nah nothing wrong with it. Just like nothing wrong with calling blacks black. It's riddiculous that people think the term 'black' is racist. These true racists who insist on sounding like complete dolts when talking about there 'African American co-workers' get on my tits.

Ive always wondered, is calling someone halfcast racist?

We were studying poetry and the HalfCaste poem last year and my English teacher said that it is an actual offensive and racist term, but most people dont find it racist and use it.

How about calling them grey?, seeing as black + White = Grey

I don't like the word halfcast and wouldn't use it in company. Mixed ethnicity/heritage works better for me.

It is a good question.

Black in just about every other circumstance is a negative connotation.

It is somewhat like calling someone gay. There are 2 types of human, men and women. gay is a sexual proclivity and not an identity. There is no such thing as heterosexual or homosexual - but that is another debate.

Colour is determined by the sun. Black skin is dominant in sunny areas as whiter skin shades die out due to evolution. That is why red hair does well in Ireland and Scotland.

Maybe we could use a non offensive term, like the colour of coffee with no milk , lightly creamed coffee, coffee with cream and a very milky coffee.

I reckon if Jesus was a nazarite like some people say then he had dreads. He more than likely looked something like Bob Marley.

Half-caste (or often mis-spelt half-cast) is a term used to describe people of mixed race or ethnicity.[1] Caste comes from the Latin castus, meaning pure, and the dervative Portuguese and Spanish casta, meaning race. The term originates from the Indian caste system, where a person of 'lesser' or half-caste would be deemed to be of a 'lower class'. While the origins of the term are derogatory, its usage has evolved to give it the more objective meaning described above.

dark brown and beige/tinted yellow/pink/light brown don't really have the same effect esp when it comes to the variety of colours white people can be

What colour are Asians on the colour chart?
