A man managed to illicit an apology from his local job centre for being thrown out for wearing a hoodie - based on his claim that wearing a hood in public was part of the Jedism religion? Is he taking the piss?

Some people are weird out there, even tough Star Wars is awesome.
Hey, at least the source material makes for good fiction, for a change. It's no more riddiculous than Islam or Christianity.
We have a blasphemy law here in Ireland that was brought in two months ago and is already facing a refferendum later this year. It carries a 25,000 euro fine despite the fact that it is entirely unenforceable.
God is a pussy.
There. I just broke an Irish law. Seriously. I couldn't make it up.

If Muslims can keep them on so should Jedi's be able to. It's all baseless, whacky, Santa for grown ups garbage. Treat them all the same.

Yes, he was taking the piss... but fair play to him. It's good that we have these characters to show us how bad this PC-gone-mad world has become.

As opposed to live in a fantasy world thinking I am an actor with a bathrobe on?:elephant::elephant::elephant:

What do you mean by drug boy? Do explain for us all.
I used to smoke grass, done my fair share of tripping back in the day, I have my cups of tea and coffee every day, and I drink at the weekends. Hardly qualifies me as a 'drug boy'. I have never had a problem with drugs and I doubt I ever will. The fact that you would use drug use as some form of insult just because I happen to believe that all religions are ... in fact ... horseshit is startling.
Turn the other cheek and all that, you old symbol of humility.

Not many muslims in burkas commit robberies, however blokes in hoodies have.

Oh yeah of course silly me, forgetting all those thousands of women in burkas who have committed suicide attacks in the UK.

A Muslim man has already escaped the country wearing a burka - male terrorists could just as easily commit suicide attacks/terrorist attacks hidden under burkas masquerading as women!
Really could you refresh my memory on that one, getting old and the grey cells sometimes let me down but wasnt it Yassin Omar who got from London to Birmingham disguised in a burka but was then arrested in the bath of the flat he was in wearing a rucksack, he went on trial for being part of the July 21st bomb attacks. His plan was to attempt to leave the country the same way. Or was it the leader in Pakistan who got caught leaving the mosque wearing one, again he didnt manage to escape either, cant remember his name though.
Or perhaps you refer to Mustaf Jama a Somalian criminal wanted in connection with the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky, he wasnt a terrorist and it was in 2005, there have been changes dealing with airport security in regards to burkas since then. He was extradited back to the UK in 2006 or 2007. Anyways he was wearing a niqab. I know its splitting hairs but I am a pedantic twat
I believe the wearing of the burka should be discouraged but not banned like Sarkozy did in France, because I feel its discriminatory against women and its not really required by the Qu'ran. Women should dress modestly is all it really requires.
As for what people could do, they could easily talk in foreign languages in public on a mobile phone plotting where to plant bombs, passing recipes for making explosives etc, so should we insist in Britain they only talk English? While we are at it we could just state if you are Muslim or look like you could be of Middle Eastern origin, you are not allowed to carry rucksacks or suitcases.
Besides why dress in a burka to commit a suicide bombing, its impractical, you dont have the ability to move quickly or see all around you. Body vests packed with explosives can be worn under normal clothes with the minimum of suspicion, whereas someone in a burka is viewed with suspicion anyway. If they wanted to explode a larger bomb a burka-wearing rucksack-carrying person is even more suspicious.

Don't know if this link is one of those you mention.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-409376/Man-dons-burka-flee-anti-terror-police.html
Whilst I do see many of your points - I do feel that it is pretty easy for men, whether it be for terrorist, criminal or other security breaches, to use the burka to hide their identity, nevermind other reasons such as it being discriminatory towards women, as you mention and prevents assimilation into British culture.
The burka does pose a security risk and should not be allowed in public in this country, in my opinion!
Yep that link was the first name I mentioned. he was caught in Birmingham.
Yeah but banning it wont sit well with a lot of people, its better to discourage its use, by banks and shops refusing service, or by having a security guard stand right beside them all the time they are in the premises. With airports, it will be no matter as at present women wearing burkas etc can be taken away to a private room and identity confirmed by female security and soon whole body scanners that show whats underneath being adopted by ATSU's.

This thread is cool, Im doing a portifoli on anything I like, and One thing I was going to do is something like this, but I was going to do it with trekkies for star trek. Its a intresting topic. I mean they have the same material as other religions, so can we class them as a religion? Hard to say really, what is really religion? Everyone has different views on what religion is... I think Ninian SMarts 7 dimension theory is probely the best way to describe what a religion is.
