Alot of people keep saying they are fed up with Lady Gaga?

I have only recently started becoming a fan of her, before I was like.. I loved her songs but cba about her tbh.

Now I love her.

But everyone keeps saying shes annoying them because she always has about 2 or 3 tracks on the charts at the same time.

Well shes good so she deserves it, plus BEP were on the charts for bloody ages.. if anything shouldnt we be fed up with them and their stupid 'Future' look now.

Bad Romance was released in October 2009 and its still on I think 23 in the UK Charts after that long!

Poker Face was voted the best song of 2009.

And now she has Telephone and the video is never off the telly.

I think its great, but is Lady GaGa starting to piss you off?

Yes and no.

She gets played to death in the clubs I usually go to so, recently I have completely changed what sorta clubs to go to. In other words instead of chart played dancefloors I go to rockier venues or indie clubs.

Yes. The Telephone video totally killed it for me. She is just an overbloated parody of herself now. Put on any weird costume and show it from a right angle and all of a sudden everyone has a .gif of it in there signature of avatar. Christ. All style, no substance.

I totally disagree with you there Stu, I think there's plenty of substance to her music, the lyrics all have quite cryptic meanings and she's making some of the strongest pop melodies in the mainstream atm.

you cant predict the future though.

for example:-

No. This is it for them. Even the music industry thinks they're sh!t. Goodbye Jedward. :)

Just after Jedward were dropped by Sony!
then, picked up by Universal, 24 hours later. LOL

I totally disagree with you there Stu, I think there's plenty of substance to her music, the lyrics all have quite cryptic meanings and she's making some of the strongest pop melodies in the mainstream atm.
Well, pop melodies don't need substance to be great [just take a look at Girls Aloud] and I have said on occasion that I am certainly a fan of the music.

The lyrics? Okay, I will give you that, she explores a few themes but she is still at the shallow end of the pool IMO. Most of what she is writting about is love, sex, fame, love, sex and fame. It's almost like she is just writting about herself. Her own creation. Who knows, maybe she will branch out.

The real style and no substance thing though is the fashion. I can accept that it started out as an attempt to draw attention to herself, which is perfectley acceptable as after all she is an artist, but the Telephone video just pushed it over the edge for me.

The cigarette head thingy? Come on. It stinks of trying too hard without there being any point behind it. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. If I didn't know any better it could have been any Saturday night sketch show taking the mick out of her.

Since 2006, however she didnt quite take off until 2009.

Yes she has been around longer, and shes still more successful and better than Jedward, its quite hard to find a bunch of haters for Lady GaGa, however.. its easy to find haters for Jedward.

I dont mind them though tbh, I am getting an easter egg of them if its true theres one coming out lol

Again, you keep saying this without any evidence, despite saying a few days ago that none of us are ... and I quote ... Mystic Meg.

It seems like your just trying to devalue the work she is doing at every turn in order to cool off your jelousy jets and validate Madonna to people more.

Nobody knows where Lady GaGa's career will turn. Nobody.

Unfortunately she has attracted a lot of people who find her weird, don't like the way she dresses or her music trying to say she's copying Madonna atc, fair enough we all have different opinions;).

Uh because they had a Massively Popular UK Talent show to left them off, because they were hated.

GaGa worked hard to get to were she is today as did many other artists unlike people like Leona who are only famous for the same reason as Jedward.

Then I may have misunderstood you. But for future reference, a prediction is usually done in the context of 'I think' or 'I reckon'.

If you say 'Lady GaGa will not be as relevant in a few years' people may think you are making a de facto statement.

Right do you have any proof at all to back that up?
:bored:

GaGa has had far more successful songs than Taylor, im quite sure everyone on here would agree when I say that.

Lady G can release a song and it can still be on the charts months on, just look at Bad Romance.

Taylor Swift is boring, she had one good song last year.
Cant see it happening again tbh

Who says she needs to give a crap in order to allow others the free speech not to like her? What a riddiculous thing to say.

I doubt George Bush gave a sweet mother**** during his eight years in office what Stu in Cork thought about him but it didn't stop me from having an opinion.

I think she's having you all on to be honest. She's created a cult based on nothing. She wears these silly outfits and people automatically drop to their knees and worship her. Her lyrics are sh!te. There is no hidden meaning. You're searching for something that isn't there. She's a very clever lady, I'll give her that. She knows how to work her fans, she knows how to manipulate the media. Some of you should read up Dadaism.

"Dada or Dadaism is a cultural movement that began in Zürich, Switzerland, during World War I and peaked from 1916 to 1922.[1] The movement primarily involved visual arts, literature—poetry, art manifestoes, art theory—theatre, and graphic design, and concentrated its anti-war politics through a rejection of the prevailing standards in art through anti-art cultural works. Its purpose was to ridicule what its participants considered to be the meaninglessness of the modern world."

Don't patronize me, kid. I'm not missing the point. I just don't like what she is doing. She can have all the pseudo reasons in the world to twist and bend to make her outfits appear with a purpose I just don't like the girl. She doesn't tickle my fancy. Not. My. Thing.

I simply can't support a waste of perfectly good cigarettes.

Ah thank you I was trying to think of that term.

What I hate is when she says in interviews she attracts the misfits in society. Her audience are about as off the cuff and underground as Argos on a Saturday afternoon. As a collective they have convinced themselves that they are part of some cultural pop revolution when in reality it's just a great, big whacky ass showbiz production set to some great europop.

She is definately intelligent, and there is no doubt crumbs of 'meaning' in what she is doing, but until the substance outweighs the style, I'm not yet converted.

Nope. I heard "Poker Face" first back in October 2008 way before it came out in the UK. I remember staying up till 5:00am listening to it on YouTube on repeat thinking "This is amazing." so I liked her way before she became a worldwide success.

That hardly makes you a ****ing maverick. She was an internet phenomenon by then, if I recall, and tens of thousands of people followed her. It was widely known that she was going to be big, and was tipped as the next it thing. It's not as if you were breaking the mould or anything. Ahhhh love this thread, and the GaGa haters. Guess she shows how easily kids can be influenced by 'the next big thing' these days. But yes, GaGa is clever, and has alot of people fooled. It's not like it was even a rags to riches story either, she went to the same school as Paris Hilton for gods sake!!!! She knows the music industry inside out, she writes songs that anyone can write. Plus she releases songs so fast she won't even have that one known classic. Even Britney has 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' as her iconic song. GaGa just churns out ****e to stay in the spotlight. It won't last long.

Up with the GaGa hate!!!

What an aggressive response - I haven't LIED about anything! Don't give a damn about her or her 'music' - but it does seem very unlikely that someone from such an apparent wealthy background was likely to have worked that hard - it is nearly always a case of who you know, not what you know in that industry! So? Why even bring money into it? She couldn't choose the family she was born into. Would you rather she burned all her money and lived on the streets before ever having pursued a career in music?

You know nothing about her or her music yet feel the need to take a swing for her. I mean ... what are you basing your standpoint off? Knowledge? Hell no. Assumption. Nothing but.

Again, as much as I hate her she worked to get to where she is. Sure she may have had some contacts, that happens when you are in a scene for so long, but let's look at the FACTS shall we?

She learned to play piano when she was four.
She wrote her first ballad when she was thirteen.
She performed open mic nights when she was fourteen.
She was fast tracked to the Tisch School Of Arts when she was seventeen.
She was signed to Def Jam when she was nineteen because the CEO heard her singing.

Like it or not that's just the way it is. I hate the girl but I'm not going to deny her a place in the music business because of some superior sense of her being a 'silly girl' like the dozens of other 'silly girls' you have slammed who don't meet up to your mighty expectations of what a woman should be.

It's doubtful that she had to sacrifice much in order to pursue her dream of becoming a singer when she had her parents money to support her, that's all. This isn't a girl who was living a meagre, penniless existence, hoping against all hopes to land the huge contract or find an audience.

I'll never get fed up of her.

Eh, I feel the need to elaborate on this.

I was definitely not one of the first people to 'discover' her, but I did first hear of her sometime in 2007, I think. I found her purevolume account, and liked one of the songs on there, but never thought to look her up again. I definitely know it was early because she had dark hair in all her pics, and this (http://alntv.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/lady-gaga.jpg) picture was her default, but even then she was being hyped up to be big.

When she first started to emerge as famous online, it took me a while to 'get' her. Once I got hooked on 'Beautiful, Dirty, Rich' however, it was all up from there. I waited for the international edition of 'The Fame' to be released and downloaded that with all her demos, and from then on, have downloaded every song that she's made.

I know I won't get fed up with her because for me, she's the perfect popstar. She's got a good voice, as well as musical talent (plays piano, writes songs), she makes consistently fantastic pop songs with good looks and hidden meanings, her videos are artistic and creative, and she's theatrical. As a performer myself I'm a huge sucker for anything theatrical, and her live performances have always drawn me in. I saw her in the Monster Ball Tour and she's surpassed every other act I've ever seen live. As long as she makes music, I'll definitely follow her. I know she's not perfect, but no-one is. Point is, there's not one song of hers I dislike, and I can't wait to see what'll happen next.

You said her songs are just pop trash. But if you listen to songs such as 'Again Again', 'Brown Eyes', 'Wonderful', or 'Speechless' you'll realise there's so much more to her than just 'pop trash' which I don't think any of her music is trash. Her fashion sense isn't a way of getting you to buy her music. I won't get into a debate about wether or not she's naturally wacky because I've already said that in the past. If you look at a lot of her fashion, it's not just stuff she's seen and thinks is nice.. they all mean something. For example, the kermit the frog jacket was a commentary on not wearing fur. The cigarette sunglasses were a statement about American addictions, she wore hooded leotards as a homage to Grace Jones. I could go on. Her lyrics aren't what the seem. For instance, in Telephone, on first listens you may think it's about being in a club and you a tired of your phone ringing. But listen again to the lyrics, the song is about fear of suffocation. In Bad Romance, many people don't know that throughout the song she's listing Alfred Hitchcock movies. She doesn't just write about 'fame, money, boys' like what some people say. She writes about the demise of celebrity, what moneys really worth, the boys she admires. It's all incredibly dark, yet bright and colorful. Bubble-gum with razor blades in it. People hold so many unfair and prejudgist views against her. For instance, the product placements in the Telephone [the majority of which, are not product placements], was in memory of Andy Warhol, someone who without a doubt would have loved Lady Gaga. She takes things that are extremely normal, and turns them into inotive designs. She's one of the first artists in years to trully care about the visuals. I could sit here and talk to you about her until I'm blue in the fact, but the truth is.. you'll never understand what I mean until you see her live.

Yes, it is patronizing. Your robbing people of the ability to dislike her. In your eyes you either love her, or you don't get her. I understand everything you are saying about her yet I still have my own views and don't like her. I suggest you learn to live with it.

eh, in a way.

As a person there's a lot I dislike about her. She seems boring as ****. She has no real charisma or 'presence' in interviews, and she's always completely awkward and dull. Sure, she covers all that up with stupid costumes and extravagance - but that's just shallow. It's all for attention, and annoyingly, it works. I don't care if she looks like a ****ing doily, I just want to hear her music and see her perform.

Musically, there's little to fault. She writes great songs, and whilst a lot are repetitive (I'm getting tired of hearing "eh" and the generic-Red-One beat), the majority are not. Plus she cites Queen and Bowie as influences...which, well, I have a hard job seeing in her actual material (it's rather like Tinie Tempah citing Metallica as a musical influence, really) so I'm sure it's more of an aesthetic thing.

Ultimately I guess my issue is with the current music scene rather than her - she's just played it very well.

Enid
21-03-2010, 07:54 PM
It only "means" something if you actually see it in her art and music. I don't believe for one second that as soon as fans saw those cigarette glasses they knew it was a symbol of addiction. How is that even related to the song? If you have to explain everything you ever do, what's the point of that? If your fans have to read interviews about the meaning of your music, it's not really "getting it", is it? And I don't like the holier than thou attitude from her fans because I don't want to give her the time of day. It's difficult not to! She's everywhere I ****ing walk!

She took a ridic long break to have her kids, then she released her album, and it did quite well in the US.

But dido was never as big as gaga

Don't mean to be overly critical - but Girls Aloud is hardly very original is it?

GaGa - worldwide trend
Girls Aloud - British based reality TV group, who were heavily criticised for years.

You can't compare the two as their fanbases are completely different sizes.

Don't you think thats generalising her fans?. it's like I could say most fans of Girls Aloud are males:p.

Probably, but it's not a positive or negative comment. Just truth.
