Married couples are less likely to split up than those who live together, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Analysis of Census results found that four-fifths of spouses who were married in 1991 were still together a decade later, compared with three-fifths of cohabiting couples.

Older couples and those with children were more likely to stay in the same relationships, the independent statistics body said.

No surprise really. Living together: all the disadvantages of marriage and none of the advantages.

But it's true. A lot of married couples stay together because they don't want to go through the hassle of divorce or because they have kids.

That's why my boyfriend doesn't wanna get a marriage/civil partnership.
It's so true though.

yes because it is a cliché that has little basis in truth. It is used by single folks to avoid commitment

BUt that goes without saying. Of course there are people who stay together for the kids or to not bother with divorce, we all know that!

ANd the fact that people who are married stay together longer is also obviously logical. YOu have to be more commited to the other, when you are married, as opposed to living together. It obviously takes a lot more to get, to decide to get a divorce, than to decide to no longer live together.
