The old "three strikes and your out system"

It'd get rid of a lot of the constant annoyances on this forum

Twilight

No thanks.

The 'three strikes and you're out' system combined with the amount of punishments being given out at the moment would be an absolute disaster.

The entire forum would be banned, practically.

30stone
28-03-2010, 09:58 PM
This place would be empty lol.

I do think once people have got a 1 day ban though.. it should be extended if they do something else to 3 days - 1 week.
Which i think ill do.

Patrick

You said it as if it was the Death penalty LOL

Not really, I got banned with another account with that rule.

I'm just bored of seeing certain members coming back and complaining about themselves being banned

I think after 3 bans it should be a permaban

Stacey.

no - its too final.

The bans will just keep getting longer until they realise they are being stupid.

Indeed, a ban is more of a warning then, rather than a punishment

can you do it a year longer everytime?

Jack_

It's like the death penalty really. Not needed.

As I said, this place would be dead...which is what it'll be this time next year anyway.

Just lenghten the existing bans, like James said. That seems to make sense. If you had a permabanhammer [did I just say that?] then nobody would be left.

Patrick
28-03-2010, 10:09 PM
tbf people would be left.

Just the boring ones tbh.

I AGREE.

Obviously they're not to be given out flippantly but after a series of 24 hours, 48, 1 week then I think a perma ban is appropriate. and the place wouldnt be empty because the vast majority of members are mature enough to act accordingly after the first ban.

I think it should be 1 day, 2 days, 4 days, 1 week, 1 month, permanent.

Then it gives them 5 chances to sort themselves the **** out.

And I think if you get a 1 day ban, and afterwards you don't get banned again for about 3 months then it should expire, like they did on the old forum.

The only people objecting permabans are the ones who know they wouldn't survive it.

I am quite surprised.. seeing as though someone like Samy has been banned! I have had a few warnings and infractions though. Most have expired though which is good :)

;) I think well the mods and that are probably not that strict.. don't you have to get like 10 warnings or infractions? or 12 of them or something to be banned.. unless you do something majorly disturbing like posting the blue waffle as your avatar! lol

I think the mods and admins have a soft spot for me Patrick ;)

I am probably jinxing myself now.. I think my ban will come when I least expect it!

How many times have you been banned Pat?

WOMBAI

The only ones that object are those that keep breaking the rules!

Harry!
29-03-2010, 04:52 PM
I have never had a warning ever and I have been here since 2007.

Rules should be stricter on here because so many people get away with too much.

Tom
29-03-2010, 09:46 PM
Completely agree. Too many idiots on the forum lately as well as a few long standing members who think they can speak to anyone however they want because they've been here for longer. A certain group of people, ironically the ones who say it would be boring because everyone would banned, make me not really want to come on the site now and I bet there are a few others thinking the same. If they were permanently banned I bet this site would be so much better because more people would want to come on.

Personally I think you should get a warning for each rule break. 3 warnings results in a 2 day ban. Then when you come back, 2 more warnings before a week long ban and then when you come back from that, you can only have 1 more warning before a permaban. Warnings expire after 3 months like the old system.

I think bans have become fashionable lately because they mean nothing.

I mean I'm not taking the moral high ground or anything because I'm not exactly the perfect member either but I think its a mess lately, and it seems to have started when the old system was replaced with this silly infraction leaderboard which people want to be at the top of!

Most of the infractions that are currently given last 90 days.

tbh most of the current crop of regulars wouldn't have lasted on old tibb for half as long.

No way, just have a normal ban last from 3 - 7 days. Longer and longer after than. Then eventually a permaban.

I agree, it needs to be brought back. I've seen loads of people who've been banned only to return and act just as bad. It's unfair on the mods as well, I like Jayson's idea of 5 bans and then it's permanent. Otherwise people will just continue to break the rules and that's not setting a good example really is it?

Bans nowadays are more of a 'cool' thing to have, so bringing back the permaban would soon make them uncool

Stu
31-03-2010, 09:02 PM
I don't agree with three strikes and your out, we could end up loosing a lot of quality members due to three rule breaks that could or could not have been handed out, but we definately need a stricter system to stem the flow of idiots.

It used to be fun back in the old days when I and many others were banned for serious reasons. I mean things got pretty heated and personal and sometimes it was a major shock.

These days it's petty reasons. Alot are pretty pointless and while alot of the members are to blame for their bans, obviously if you do the crime expect to do the time. I do think that some moderators need to get off their high horse. Yes, you have a job to do and yes you can ban people. Woop-dee-doo, learn to take a joke and get a backbone instead of hiding behind your ban buttons. This goes for the admins too.

With that being said, all my bans have been my fault  nobody else's. You just gotta deal with it. I'm alot more mature now these days and alot of the younger members now will realise that too.

That's a good point our bans were true badges of honor years ago for superior, comedic trolling. These days they are like a devalued currency and a whole new merry band of twats have took over with unfunny trolling where arguments are no surprise because they happen every day.

Yeah, true.

I remember mine and Red Moon's arguement. He who shall not be named......... Roy. That was well worthy of a ban it was a fun night and was talked about for ages afterwards.

Now all you have to do these days is tell a moderator they're a closet gay and you get banned. there's nothing wrong with closet gays, I'd still **** you if you're in a closet :amazed:
