Not really nothing wrong with liking different things, i just hate it when people think music is just to do with the charts, or sale figures.

I find music taste a good basis for judgment of a person. For example, I consider MeMyselfandI's ignorance of music to be an ignorance in general. I really doubt that she's a go-to authority when it comes to discussing the art of Van Gogh or the cinema of Kurosawa, or perhaps the history of the Labour Party.

There are no good or bad music tastes, but there are uninformed music tastes. And when the majority, no, the entirety, of what you listen to had been shortlisted and decided rather handily by The X Factor and BBC Radio 1, that's sad.

I agree with that! And I would actually never tell people they have bad taste. I would only say, I dont like this kind of music, I like this instead. BUt everyone is entitled to enjoy what they please, and what their ears like to hear! LOL!

I felt the same when I was like 12, 13, 14 around that age. Older people in their twenties, use to hate on my musical taste. :)

You just have to laugh it off. It is what it is! New popular stuff, are always gonna be hated on by the older generation! :)

Exactly! I can appreciate music that I dont even understand the lyrics to (maybe its in a different language).
Some people are very into lyrics, and thats fair enough, to find that very important of course.
I do like some songs because of their lyrics, but there are others that I dont care about the lyrics whatsoever!

One thing that annoys me is people thinking their artist is the best in the WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD. Yes they're your favourite band(or singer),you think they're amazing but that doesn't mean they are. I love Take That and I do think they deserve the recogintion they get but I don't go around saying they're better than The Beatles or Queen or whoever cos I'm not ignorant to what is better. Yes there's personal taste,but there's just general common music sense as well. And for people who don't want to look further for music,well it's you whose missing out.

Yeah, no such thing as bad genres - just bad artists. Some of the pop kids think metal is scary and all that nonsense, and some of the metal kids have a complete disdain for black music genres.

As long as you see it as a form of entertainment that's fine, but some people here thrive off it based purely on ignorace and slam others music tastes in the process. Bringing up pop is a red herring. Pop isn't the problem, the disease of ignorance is.

When you say an artist is better purely because they have sold more records, then yes, you are suffering from this disease.

If you want to like pop as entertainment, fine. I like pop. But don't go saying people like Britney Spears and Jedward have artistic merit, because they don't. That's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact.
