Straw Dogs on channel 5 now!
Starring Dustin Hoffman.
It is a film that was banned for like 20 years because it was too "controversial". There is apparently quite an explicit rape scene or something?
Anyone seen it? is it good? anyone watching it now?

As a film, it's a very persuasive argument for not moving to the countryside.

Never seen it, sounds a bit like Last House On The Left, I seen the remake of that and there was an awful scene in that.

I haven't seen the original but a remake is in post production at the moment starring Alexander Skarsgard, James Marsden and Kate Bosworth, due out next year which I'll definitely want to see! Apparently the director has hailed Alex as the next big thing in Hollywood based on his performance in this (obviously I already think he's an amazing actor anyway) so I can't wait.
Will more than likely try and watch the original at some point before that release so I can compare the two.

Yes Ive seen it, its a mix film to me, its boring, but also tense and intresting, the ending is great.
I remember it was suppose to be bad when she is rapped, becuase they edited it soo bad it made it look like she was loving being rapped.

In the remake the rape scene is meant to be very harrowing :/

Oh lol, cool. Hopefully they will do the rape scence better and makes us fell for the character, and not view her enjoying being rapped.

That's why the scene caused so much uproar: she does seem to enjoy and embrace her rapist at a certain stage. And of course alot of people were aware at the time of how violent cinema was becoming and this film seemed to be promoting and accepting it even further. So many touchy issues involved.

I think they've kept the premise the same, I've tried not to read too much about it because I don't want to spoil it but I did read that she says to the rapist afterwards 'hold me' or something? Don't know if it's like that in the original or not.
Either way I'm looking forward to seeing what Alex does with the role, and I like James Marsden too so should be good.

I hate when they remake old classics, but this films one saving grace is that it's directed by a guy who might actually be the right man for the job. I enjoyed two of his earlier projects where he revealed a keen eye for detail and an appreciation of ethical and moral issues.

Nah they're relocated to the south of North America for the remake...a lot of people are saying they don't like the idea (was the original set over here?) but I think from what I've read it should still work well, a city boy relocating to the 'dirty' south, a complete culture change.
