well of course If you call me 'fake' I'm just going to avoid such a situation. Look, as I said, this has really upset me enough. If you want to be sane about it, and talk in PM then I'm all up for it. But I don't want to be hurt by your comments anymore, so only PM if you actually care for a solution.

you have clearly had a problem with Jess for a while, its just so obvious.
i never meant to 'upset' or 'hurt' anyone in this.. as it was mostly Jess getting hurt herself. so i agreed and stood up for her.

That's very true, but there's a fair few wallies in real life who'd try to buy you and sell you too.

Oh yeah of course, some are easy to see though but some believe their own lies so much it's not like acting at all.

Ages at our local PO - as they have that ticket system - that has now made it even worse! They repeatedly call the same number out - until finally getting the message that the person has given up the ghost - you wait for ever! Avoid it like the plague now!

I'm basically the same, but the problem for me is that online any comment you make carries more abiguity and is very open to interpretation because key elements of your personality can't be conveyed through the net, such as tone, body language etc.... personality basically. Wires can be crossed far easier in this situation. My response to Mrluva's comment is a key example.

I don't think anyone is. It's like when you are driving. And you will only relate to this is you drive. When you are behind a wheel, and someone does something to piss you off, you are there, giving the fingers, telling the other driver or pedestrian to piss off. If 99% of people were not behind their "safe place" in a car they would not say half the things they do. Face to face would be completely different. If hate or drink was not involved.

Yep very true, which is why trolls flourish on the net I guess. People just need to learn to not get affected by things on the net. I think it's harder for kids these days, as they grow up with it, it's all around them. Like kids have FB's and Bebo's at 7 and stuff, it's crazy.

Yeah, I think so. Plus, the problem is you may find yourself getting close to some people because of the absence or shrouding of personality that naturally occurs on the net, only to find out a few weeks later that they're fecking eejits, you know? At least in real life you can see the whole picture from the start.

Very true actually, I am a quite good judge of character in real life but on the net it's harder. People can almost lure you in to their own world kinda thing, and then you find it's all a sham.

Actually, I think these forums have become very damaging to society. Especially for kids who become addicted to them(hi Stace :xyxwave:). Theyre living in a virtual reality instead of getting out there and socialising with real people.

I don't know how many times I'm going to have to defend this, but the "Most Memorable" thread I made was 1) a feel good thread that, like it or not, spawned a series of other feel good/forum-wide participation threads. 2) a nice gesture & 3) in no way a popularity contest, because it was entirely written by me with no input from other people.

Anyway, Lewis made a very good point earlier in the thread about longevity. The longer you've been on the forum, the more scope there is for people to have opinions of you; so perceived popularity or hatred is only magnified over time. I don't really see the forum as being a popularity contest; I just think, as always, there is a contingent of people who need to be reassured. I don't think that's a bad thing. I think you have to be insecure or disillusioned with life in some way to find yourself as a regular poster on a website; perhaps it was a one off period in your life, perhaps it's all the time, but I don't think that's important and I certainly don't think anyone's in a position to judge someone else for being "sad", we're all as sad as each other!

I really agree with this. It infuriates me when people go around telling others to 'get a life' because they appear to use the internet too much. Like, who cares? What's it to them? As I said earlier, some people use forums and the like for escapism from real life problems, others use it because they have nothing better to do, and others just enjoy the internet a lot. You can't define 'having a life' anyway because life is perceived differently by everyone and everyone enjoys doing different things and everyone has different problems. I just think it's ignorant and childish to say to someone that they're 'sad' or they 'need to get a life' because they use the internet a lot.
