Get in touch with your ISP and ask if you are getting the service you are paying for, they will run that or similar test a few times and accurately measure your connection speed, then if need be initially tirn up the gain on your line though the local digital exchange.

Yeah it will be, depends on how many windows you have running on the net through your browser, should only have one browser, open in one window, and no other programs accessing the net in the background to get anything like an accurate reading.

Exit your anti virus prog, any downloaders torrent programs etc, then try it.

Also different times of the day will produce different loads on your local exchange that will also affect your speed.

BT speedtester is accurate over a 30 second period. But you have to be on a bt line which you wont be in RoI

Also depends if you have opened ports for those programs as well.

Your welcome, the other thing to try after doing one test is to try a different server and see if speed alters radically.

If you want a more accurate speed use your own ISP's speedtester. Most have them in the members areas.

Once you have one test result look on the page for the link to run the test again using a different server. try a few different ones. Then if you think your speed is still low get in touch with your ISP helpdesk and see what they expect it to be, in line with your contract, They can within a few hours tweek it up a bit if it is low.

Its an internet utility to send a packet of information from one computer to a specific target computer and ask it to reply sending the same information back

It is used to see how long it takes to get the information there and back , it can also be used to check and see if any information was lost enroute and needed to be resent. This may be indicated by a greater time.

In the case of that test it was initiated by the site you were testing your linespeed, however you can initiate it form within the Command Line prompt. (start > run )

I wanted fibre optic but its not available in my area. But actually I dont think I wanna pay those high prices as Im happy with my speed. I download way too much as it is anyway and your download speed would just encourage me more! I have unlimited.

I disabled wifi and used cable connection; still 14.70mb DS, 0.95 US. It downloads huge files pretty fast so its fine. I always have excellent signal reading plus its good that I can use wifi without any loss of speed.

Anybody without a WPA2-PSK password on their router should get one.

My best is about 7 even tho it is supposed to be 10. And the check is Aberdeen which is about 150 miles away
