View Full Version : Who will be the next Labour leader?

Who do you think? David Milliband?
Angus

Well if Labour put their money where their mouth is it would be Harriet Harman since they're supposed to be the party of equal opportunity for all irrespective of gender. Seeing as how she is the Deputy Leader of the party already, she would be the ideal choice for me, since with her in post, the Conservatives would sail through the next election with a massive majority! She would definitely be Cameron's secret weapon.

There are a few good Labour politicians who could run the party very well.
I think David Milliband will get it, especially with Lord Mandelson's backing. I'd be happy with David Milliband or Ed Balls as leader.
Angus

What about Ed Balls?
Think he shot himself in the foot by suggesting tactical voting before the election - he nearly lost his own seat! The Party are not happy with the result and some of that is down to his daft idea, since the tactical voting actually took votes AWAY from Labour. Lol.

Alan Johnson has ruled himself out according to this morning's news. He's on TV now saying he thinks he's too old at 60.
Considering that Labour always bang on about equal opportunities and sex discrimination, there don't appear to be any other female contenders, and Harman isn't even seriously being considered despite being the Deputy Leader. Once more all smoke and mirrors.

is the New Dead Labour Party and Clause 4

So you'd prefer the privately educated, Oxford graduate Ed Balls as leader would you? Or Miliband, another Oxford graduate? I'm having trouble following your arguments against privately educated, Oxbridge graduates Cameron and Clegg governing the country on the other thread - lol.

Of the choices it is not a difficult pick between the Millibands - I prefer Ed. I'm a Scottish Socialist I want independance from your right wing country as we are a socialist country who have little in common with Engerland.
How can you rule my country with one MP?. Tories came 4th in Scotland - it is not tenable

For once we're in agreement - the sooner Scotland gets its independence, the sooner it'll have its hand out of the English purse. Labour would never give you independence, they needed your votes too much, whereas the Tories clearly don't.

I agree with you too - look at the votes/MPs
Socialist Scotland keeps labour in-touch. Take-out Scottish MPsand you have a clear Tory mandate and no hung parliament - let the socialist Scotland go free.

You say "let Scotland go free" as if you're all walking around tied to a ball and chain. Just so you are aware its actually YOU SCOTS who have the choice "to go free" at every general election. The problem is my friend the SNP who would gladly grant you your wish had 6 MPs elected out of a possible 59! Even the SNP guy who won a by-election was booted out and replaced back by Labour with a thumping majority.
You have the best of both worlds: your own parliament where English MPs are not allowed to vote and a very generous amount of money from English tax payers which allows you things such as free tuition and health care, oh and not to mention, bailing out your banks which otherwise would have gone down. In contrast England doesnt have its only parliament where Scots can vote on matters concerning the English, we have to pay for tuition and health care.
I say let England go free! In the 2005 election more people in England voted Tory but ended up with a Labour government with a massive 66 seat majority. Our last two PMs have been Scottish and a cabinet full of Scots including two who have been managing the finances which is no surprise why Scotland has been well looked after - more so than a lot of English people.
Frankly, and I don't dislike the Scots, but reading idiotic crap like yours I really wish we could get shot of you all because I am sick and tired of hearing whinging, moaning ignoramuses like yourself and your obsession with hating and blaming all the woes on the English and nicking "your oil" and William Wallace.

I don't get that :conf: Balls is kinda old labour and so will gain some traditionalist union support, David is a bit Tony Blair so will get the ex-trendies from New Labour pretending to be socialists, Ed will get votes from New Socialists.
I happened to watch the Heaven 17 prog from BBC2 from last night and can't get "We don't need this Fascist Groove Thang" out of my head every time I read one of your posts - it is so apt they're touring again with the two posh waynes fagging for each other in Westwinster! Would this be the illegal war that had more Labour Party dissenters than Tory ones? The illegal war your Prime Minister said he was 100% behind? Oh the inconvenience of history when you're making up bollox eh arista?!
How un-rushed can an election be if not gonna have an outcome until annual confrerence time? .........and under the PLP rules, anyone can declare themselves into the running if they feel like it. I remind you the Labour Party has a female caretaker on the Opposition Bench. The last time the Tories had a 'female' in authority within the party was Sir Margaret Thatcher esq. See how well that turned-out for the country. (Tho there was Eggwina who could arguably be said to be in power and 'on top' when doing reverse cowgirl with Johnny Boy Major).
Why are the Tories so stuck on fat cat millionaires to fund themselves? Which corrupt party was it that tried to buy the last election by spending many multiples of millions more than all the other parties in the UK on it put together arista?
