And that right there is the inherent flaw in such polls/surveys. They are often better at concluding that men feel less guilt and are prone to exaggeration, while women feel more guilt and are prone to minimizing details.

Maybe - but as a general rule men have cheated a lot more than women in the past - mainly because they had more opportunity! Times have changed - married women work, have more opportunities and are less likely to fear the stigma previously attached to cheating women!

Simply the statement they had more opportunity doesnt cut the mustard, surely being stuck in an office or factory limited the opportunity to cheat, whereas the housewife at home had every opportunity to perform with all manner of tradesmen, (the plumber, window cleaner, binmen etc) or meet men when she was out shopping etc.

No proof at hand - just going from memory of various things I have heard and read over the years! Even today - most cases of cheating from people in the public eye, for example, seem to be men! Older men leaving their wives of many years for younger women - has been a common occurence for many years!

I dont think they would be too keen to feed that other women do the dirty but would much rather blame the men so that there would be solidarity between the sisters of womanhood. Because women are after all sweet and loyal, although they can be tough and adaptable enough to survive in a mans world.

I don't think women are sweet and loyal at all - but as you said it has generally been considered a 'man's world' and, as such, it has always been easier, both physically and psychologically (less stigma) for men to cheat! Men staying late at the office, going on a business trip etc - how many women with young children could get away with that!

We could go on forever like this - in the end I guess cheating is more to do with character than gender - but opportunity generally has a part to play, I think!
