I feel a little stressed by this. I wouldn't be able to decide either way.
Ergh, weird strange thought.

Without even readng the link..........people have a notional life expectancy, then they out-live it and see their kids die it becomes distressing. My dad is 79 and scared of dying, but he knows never gonna crack the conundrum of nuclear fusion and close to time. Human beings decay and get sore and die. Anything else is unnatural IMHO

Ok, while reading it all I was thinking - apart from the obvious - was will this be attainable to all or on a scale, like the wealthy get the treatment while the rest die early?

Sounds awful. It devalues life.

Watch some movies - Logan's Run correctly predicted we cannot afford old people. We can keep then alive no problem but virtual vegetables (my uncle is).

In 50 years your kids will have to consider you as a healthy vegetable with dementia - medical science can keep them alive already - imagine in 2050.

When I was at Uni in 80s we were able to predict the problem of non-workiing oldies in 2010 and we were correct - I got my thesis on it - I hate to think the new predictions.

That's where good old Tribal Sacrificing of the weak comes in. Fun for all the family.

As much as I'd love to be alive in 1,000 years to see how the world has progressed, I don't think, for the sake of humanity it is a good idea in the slightest, and nor do I think it is realistically possible in our lifetime, no matter what these "scientists" proclaim.

100 is easy though as life expectancy in your lifetime - what you gonna do with us 80s and 90s who cannot remember what day it is? Gonna work 80 hours per week to keep us all in homes?

Fine for me providing the extended life is healthy and reasonably young looking. It would be great to see new advancements as time goes by...What a fantastiic technological change since the early thirties......

Major logistical problem however.......The world would be terribly over populated and as such would be a pressure cooker of mankind competing and taking rescources from the planet.......Even more wars may in the end reduce life span along with more starvation.........

Also a dreadfull prospect to think insane political dictator could live to be a thousand years..........

If ever it became technically possible I think only the rich and elete and ruthless criminals would have access to it.........

Ew.

The world would be full with old wrinkly tiny people, and it would just be horrible and ugly.

"And remember, none of that time would be lived in frailty and debility and dependence - you would be youthful, both physically and mentally, right up to the day you mis-time the speed of that oncoming lorry."

You didn't read it properly Patrick - that is just it - we wouldn't be old and wrinkly as you so charmingly put it! We wouldn't grow older!

No on the New Moonbase
I will be able to control the Walmart Food Dome.

My body would sit inside a Robot case
then the robot moves to my mind.

Yes I can see 1000 year olds as fine.

Not only the Bible but a number of ancient sources talk about people who used to live to great ages like this. 500, 600 and nearing 1000 years old. Often these people are likened to gods, sages, titans, patriarchs. If you think about it - they would seem like 'gods' among short-lived men. Just think of the astonishing wealth, knowledge, skills and techniques someone would accumulate in 400 years!

The thing here though.. never mind longevity - how healthy and what quality of life do we have for how long?

Crazy stuff.

Yes
Utter Bliss

It could be utter bliss. In some of the ancient eastern texts the 'great sages' were patriarchs that lived for many centuries and some of the stories describe them achieving states of 'bliss' and these kind of meditative mastery techniques.

Now here is the other side of that - imagine how so many dictators and emperors became increasingly corrupt and twisted and evil?
The good news is that they usually die after some maximum reign of 50 or 60 years.
Imagine some evil bastard full of twisted and increasingly bitter sick intentions just kept living and living accumulating power, wealth and perfecting all manner of evil practice?

Seriously - I'm all for advancing biotechnology and gene therapy and all this,
but,
wow.. we are surely asking for trouble too. We have ethical dilemmas we never even knew existed.
Crazy world.

The population would go sky high and we would run out of natural resources, which would likely kill the human race quicker than if we all accept aging.

No it would not
as by then the Planet
would burn up.

All Food would grow for the rich
on the Moonbase Walmart Food Dome.

The 1000 crew will be Elites
with many younger folks happy to be safe & alive on the International Moonbase
and helping them get into there robot cases.

No not at all
with that much age you are more wise and God like.

Any Evil Leaders would not get to the Moonbase Alive.

Nice to have you back Jords - and yes that is a good point! In reality - it just wouldn't work!

It Will as Wisdom of the Extreme Old folks

Maybe in the far future if we ever master space travel and such, then space and natural resources might not be such a problem if we ever manage to colonise other planets.

Okay I'll stop since I sound as though I've played too much Mass Effect.
