Personally - I am glad he didn't go to prison! He was provoked beyond endurance for a man of his state of health at the time - something the youngsters were completely aware of - and deliberately tried to abuse! His career is undoubtedly over - and I dare say he will have a conscience about his actions - which is probably more than can be said about the thoroughly unpleasant pupils involved - seriously doubt they will have a conscience about theirs!
Whilst I don't condone his behaviour - I condone theirs even less - they knew exactly what they were doing!

This is a very sad case, but I bet it struck a chord with thousands of teachers up and down the country who have to endure verbal and physical abuse almost on a daily basis.

Great news. Let's hope the little ***** lives fail, which is more than likely.

He should have been given something more, maybe a few months in an open or minimum security prison because regardless of the circumstances he did beat in a kid's head in with a weight and since it wasn't self defence it's not right to only hand out Community Service.
The kid's not in the right either but no kid deserves that.

he should be retired and medicated and the class involved should be thrashed with a birch live on tv at 4pm BBC1
each to get 10 strokes

Weren't they videoing the whole thing on a mobile phone with the intention of distributing it around the school to humiliate this teacher who they all full well knew had been off sick with stress? Seems to me this is a commonsense sentence. The boy the teacher attacked was a well known troublemaker and perhaps now he will understand that his actions have reactions, and not always ones he anticipated!

I've argued this very point in another thread which spanned pages and pages and I'm not going around in circles here.
We won't agree on this no matter what we say, I don't condone any sort of violence against kids (unless like I said before. your life is in danger) and saying that the chap in this instance deserved it would make me a hypocrite.
