Not sure I can make my mind up on this one.

I don't think it's possible to give a straightfoward response to a question like that. For instance, hatred could fall under war and so on.

I'll go for apathy though. A lot of people don't realize how a controlled, apathetic, vegetable population can be very, very dangerous.

Look to Ireland, my country, for proof of that. Yeah, the government and virtually every state institution ****ed us over - but we let them. The day the Lisbon Treaty passed in that illegal refferendum, we should have taken to the streets.

Religious Fundamentalism would be the next that comes to mind.

Religion and Apathy really. Religious people don't give a **** about anyone but their own.

Doesn't society need apathy from the people so it can work well?

And the fear of some of the others keeps people in line.

Yes we're in fear of the muslims it seems so they keep the goverment in line.

Religious Fundamentalism.

Why do you say that?
and,
I suppose I might ask you 'what religion' since there are different ones?

Christianity and Islam.

What about these?
They are a threat to your society how?

Christianity is the foundation for the UK and most of the things you (hopefully) think are worth protecting are undoubtedly built from a Christian worldview.
Islam wants to destroy most of those.

But what are you trying to say here?

karezza

Islam is the greatest threat - it is an attavistic, misogynistic, brainwashing cult.

The fundies from both parties are potentially dangerous seen as they want all out war. And the Evangelical American Christian thing seems to be spreading here more rather than CofE

I want to change my answer to 'ignorance' after seeing how many people think 'Christian Fundamentalism' is a worse threat,
and,
how many think 'overpopulation' is a threat.

There ARE some issues to be dealt with regarding either of those but neither of them are any threat.

Also its almost disturbing how FEW people chose 'Big Brother/eroding civil rights' which people in the UK ought to be absolutely terrified of already (never mind it getting worse yet.).
I guess Orwell was a prophet after all - people really WILL just eventually accept it.
Truly frightening.

I think all of them come together at some point, they're related. I think there isn't "a greatest" threat to society because not only they belong to different parts of a society (economics....) but you can't treat them at the same time. One at the time. BUT, the biggest issue is to choose which one we should treat first.

I love the way things like a killer virus, gigantic meteorites or natural disasters don't even make the list - just shows you what we think of ourselves now, doesn't it? And yes, I totally agree; we are the biggest threat to ourselves.

A lot of them are unforseen things I guess that we can only sit and guess about. I know a meteorite is due in I think the 2020's, but it's expected not to hit us.

It's meant to go right under the sattelites and stuff though. That's going to be some scary stuff.

Ah yeah, but you know where I'm coming from, right? It's very hard not to feel afraid of your own species when you see what we're capable of.

But what's this about a fecking meteorite?!!!!!

Religions fundamentalist or not are all a huge danger to society and the world ar large..........Religions divide people more than unite........Squabbling over who's delusional fantacy is right or wrong.......Religious activists brain wash their kids before they are old enough to make a mature decision........(Very very evil). Once brainwashed when an adult impartial thinking is impossible......Rubbish is handed down from generation to generation by strict and ruthless brain washing cultures.

Religious activists of all religions do there best to climb into positions of power and spread their particular brand of control freak religious based laws and standards.........

Religion will most definitely destroy mankind in the long run.........

Was thinking today.. there are like obviously a growing number of people who want something for nothing.. don't work.. well yes part of this is the recession, people having lots of babies and receiving lots of benefits. Just think if EVERYONE in the UK went on strike.. didn't want to work.. would the government sustain us ALL with benefits etc.. mmm just thinking today when the world will end.. yes people living longer but too many babies being born too! Just wondering when all mankind will end up killing each other.. in the next 100? 200 years? who knows.

I don't think soap dodging dole rats are going to bring society to it's knees, beasty. They always have existed and always will. Nothing at all compared to some of the things on the list.

Plenty of working people are pushing products and services that are messing the world up far more than people who sit at home all day and watch cartoons.

Yeah I know lol The soap dodging rats is increasing problem. Was thinking just about the UK problems really but yes on a worldly basis it is War that is a problem. Argh religion.. why can't people just learn to agree to disagree... as soon as a topic turns into something like a nasty argument than a debate it should just STOP!!! Too much control in this world when really you can't control anything but yourself >> well not even this at all times to be honest!

Oh dear.. like that film "Deep Impact". However people are saying the world will end in 2012.. which is bollocks I think.. However this "meteorite", I could imagine maybe hitting earth.. not destoying the whole planet but killing a lot of people.. maybe hundreds of thousands? something as catastrophic as the Tsunnami breakout.
