A transsexual from Reading who wanted the NHS to pay for him to have larger breasts has lost his High Court case. The man, known only as C for legal reasons, wanted West Berkshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) to pay £2,300 for the surgery. But today Mr Justice Bean dismissed the case.
Claim. Justice Bean said he had found “that there was no duty in either public law or discrimination law to classify all treatment and procedures sought by transsexuals as high priority or core procedures”.

C claimed he was in physical and psychological “limbo” following hormone treatment he had received to make him look like a woman. The treatment had not developed his breasts as much as he wanted but the PCT refused to fund an operation to increase his breast size.

Should the man/woman have been given larger hooters?

Rightly so.

Do you not think our NHS should perhaps be concentrating on children, elderly and the ill?

No way should it have been funded on the NHS - he was trying it on - much more deserving cases for the NHS to worry themselves about!

You want the boobies - you pay for them. The state shouldn't fund anything based on image and vanity.

It could work in his favour.

I find people like mr c to be attention *****s, he can now claim his lack of tittage is because of a battle against cancer, thus getting more attention into the bargain.

It's completely fair and justified that he houldn't get the implants off the NHS like Stu said we shouldn't use the NHS for vanity based reasons, it's stretched enough as it is.

I wonder if C paid some her own legal costs for this case, if he/she did then the cost of the op would have been a lot less.

If she applied for and got full legal aid, perhaps the money used to bring this case to the High court would have been better spent on the cheaper option, paying for the op.
