Katy Smith: No Nostalgia Focus

Big Brother producer Katy Smith has claimed that the show's final series will not have a nostalgia focus.

Speaking to DS earlier this year about plans for the 11th summer run, Smith said that the production team's focus would be to make it "incredibly memorable" rather than relying on the programme's history.

"There might be a little bit of nostalgia," she explained. "But the aim and focus is ensuring that it is the best series ever. We want to make it incredibly memorable.

"We've got lots of exciting twists and tasks. Lots of exciting new things we are planning to happen. I don't think the emphasis will be on nostalgia, I think that will just come naturally. Our focus is just to make it amazing."

When asked what they were looking for in housemates, she replied: "I think it's people who are genuine. People who are 100% themselves. People who are full of life and have the enthusiasm for life. That comes across really well on screen."

When they switched the show and went for get the weirdos in, that is when the show started to struggle.

The normal people can't admire weirdos.

The big characters worked for BB5-BB7. It's just after that people have only seen it as a stepping stone to fame rather than enjoying the BB experience. If they can bring that back BB11 will be classic

Good, Glad to read 'a bit of nostalgia' because it would be nice to remenisce over the last 11 years, but having a brand new series is much more important. Hopefully they can balance the two and mekae this, maybe, the best series yet.
